Ampro 3600/4600

Below you see a late model Ampro 3600 that has a one piece chassis top that flips up to expose the innards of the set. Most models have a two part lid, one part flips up to expose the tubes, one exposes the PC board section.

As you can see below, the convergence output board sits beside the EM focusing board. While both of these boards can fail, causing lack of focus and strange operation of the convergence controls, they are fairly reliable. Usually a failure on one of these boards will cause overheating of a chip or resistor, and a burning smell will quickly lead you to a potential problem on these board(s). Note that a ‘55’ code’ will turn off the convergence drive to the convergence output board, and if the drive signals are faulty, they can also cause overheating of these boards. If the convergence or focus boards run cool when the registration/convergence is turned off, you might have a problem on the actual convergence/registration drive board.

Note that the convergence and focus output boards also have thermal cut-out switches that will turn these boards off if they overheat. If you experience intermittent convergence or focus issues, these boards might be running too hot.
