I don't know if he got his name because of his soldering ability or not, but Marc, AKA Tinman does an amazing job on surface mount stuff.
He fixed my Moome NEC board for me, and it looks like a machine did it!
Thanks MARC!!

LOL, Thanks!
You're welcome. I've been soldering for 30 years. Rumor has it that my blood is part lead.....
Actually the Tinman Nickname was given to me nearly 20 years ago. It has nothing to do with soldering or the wizard of OZ. The name stuck and I used it for my first business, Tinman Enterprises.
It does have roots in Sci-Fi, though.
Let's see if anyone can guess. Analog Rocks comes to mind...... let's see how smart you are.
A pic of the EDID chip soldered in.

Is it because I'm a car nut or because I don't listen? OR Was it all the soldering in that flick?

I work at a small electronics manufacture primary for the RV industry but we are diversifying and are pretty efficient at low quantity stuff. (Shameless Plug)
http://www.kibenterprises.com/capab.html
We have all these fancy machines for soldering & part placement but when something is wrong we have to fix it by hand. In a former life I was a TV repairman and I got pretty good at slinging solder nothing like SMD stuff of today. If I need something replaced like a Moome EDID I just have one of the girls replace it as they do much better then I since they do all day long. Lifting a pad is my biggest fear.
It was a big thing when ROHS kicked in because we had to go lead free. We are still ironing out the processes for our wave machines but all and all its working well. Tinman…you may have to change your name to be ROHS compliant.
When I hired on I was amazed there was still a plant that made this kind of things in the US.

Probably change my name to "TinWhiskers" with that ROHS compliance. Now we can fill landfills even FASTER with failed crap. Sigh...

You beat me to it Marc, I feel like I have to hide from the solder police. Doug
I looked that board over of Gregs RPTV and the only spot that had anything growing was from a recent (?) cap repair.

Tinman is the name of an alien in Star Trek TNG.
Are you a bizarre alien Marc?

Monty Python, Doctor Demento, Special-X.... If it's weird, I'm a fan of it. Heck, I like Doug! I MUST be weird!
