<rant>
So, I'm having a Lumagen shipped to me from a guy in Canada. He's picking up the shipping and he tells me he is going to send it "Expedited USA". Being a native English speaker, I know that the definition of "expedite" is "speed up the progress of" or "process fast and efficiently". This of course sounds good to me--should be pretty much equivalent to the U.S. "Priority Mail".

So you'd think. Appearantly, they speak a whole different version of English in the Great White North as to Canada Post, "Expedited" means "as slow as possible"--literally. I'm not kidding, "Expedited" is the absolute slowest mechanism Canada Post has for shipping to the U.S.!!!!! Advertised shipping time: 6-12 business days!!!! There is no slower way!!! Why the hell is it called "Expedited".

Not only that, but they seem to lack the urgency of a U.S. provider (even the USPS). He dropped it off Monday at 12:27 (according to Canada Post tracking). All the bastards have been able to accomplish with my package in the last 51 hours is to move it 50 miles within Ontario!!!!!
</rant>

USPS is 1/2 hte price of Canada Post. Wa state to NYC can be done in 2-3 days. Canada to Wa state... 2 weeks or so.

I gave up on Canada Post a long time ago when I found out shipping was 1/2.

Don't even talk to me about international pricing and ship times.

Don't believe the Canada Post tracking site. It said my Moome box was still in Ottowa when it was already in my HT. I haven't checked recently -- it may STILL say it's there for all I know. Smile

I just figured out this: Since Canada Post got my package, they have been moving it toward me at an average rate of less than 1 mile per hour!!!! Hell, doesn't it take more effort to be that inefficient than it would be to be efficient!!!!

One good thing about Canada Post as of today> Sold some tubes on ebay for $10.50 to a fellow Canuck. Despite perfect packing, one arrived smashed. Insured for $100. Canada Post coughed up immediately, the $100 is in the mail.

Before you think I made killer profit and ripped Canada Post off, I'm sending the guy a really nice Sd 187 blue, which is what he was looking for in the first place. Win win. Better service than UPS..Wink

yep, shipped cables from Blue-Jeans is two days to hit the canadian border and 3 weeks to get to my house from there.
Canada Post is the absolute worst way to move things. I would move much faster if they replace the dog team with huskies. Wink

to be fair.
its mostly customs that holds things up. not the postal services.
Canada Posts main failing is that they do not update the status/location/tracking information. If they would only update the tracking information they could deflect a lot of this blame to the customs people.

Likely in my example I'd agree. but even within Canada it is pathetic in most instances I've sent, or been sent mail. even in the same town it can take 4 days to reach me.

in that case. don't be so damn lazy and deliver the damn letter yourself Smile
just kidding.
in that case I'd give my wife and friends sh*t. Wink
seriously, I've never had an issue within the country.

I just sent a package to Gino in Australia. it only took 4 or 5 days.

I'll have to agree too that it's customs that holds things going both ways. BUt I'd say in the case of going from Canada to the good ole US of A I'd say it's 100% customs holding it up.

I hear the US is so paraniod about their borders that they even stop pigeons trying to fly over the US/Canada border now days.

I've had numerous things (just lately) shipped via USPS - Canada post and I've had it in a week, our customs aren't as slow as the US customs. I get packages from Moome in a week and he's using the post services.

i think everything is slowed going to the states. but coming from the states its a crapshoot. Canada Customs only grabs a percentage of things.

I hope you guys are right that Canada Post is just a bunch of f*ck ups that can't keep systems updated as according to their tracking, my package has been sitting in Mississauga, ON for 4 days now doing nothing!

I had a Sony black and white broadcast tube camera shipped to me from Canada once, it got held in customs and they held it for two weeks then mailed a form asking for information on "country of origin" and such. I felt like writing in marker "IT'S FIFTY YEARS OLD!!" .. but I didn't. I did finally get the camera, it was a little abused but worked well.

(I wonder what happened to that thing??)
