HI everyone
An odd question.
I made an installation where the VPR has to be moved but the DVD player is the same.
To avoid messing with cables by un-skilled personal, I bought a long HDMI cable and a splitter like this
Well, it is working.
But...
I connect the thing to the DVD player and then I have two ouptuts.
While I connect only the cable that is connected to the VPR, ok.
If I connect a short HDMI cable to the other output, with NOTHING connected at the end of this cable... the VPR stops projecting images.
How can a non connected cable make this issue?
Which is the difference between nothing connected or a cable connected to nothing?
I'm puzzled.
Ciao
Antonio

Copied from the Monoprice ad:
Question: The splitter only displays on one display at a time or doesn't work at all when both displays are connected.
Answer: Unfortunately, due to the current state of the technology, results using HDMI and/or DVI splitters can be mixed. Especially passive splitters which reply on the individual devices ability to negotiate a 3 way handshake. The problem is not all devices are programmed to deal with this properly and will sometimes default to an HDCP error state. To put it simply, some devices will consider a split of the signal to be a copyright violation, so it may decide that only one display should show at a time or may block the content entirely. This type of situation is considered to be a device compatibility issue and can not be fixed short of a firmware update by the individual device manufacturers.

Yes, I thought this.
But:
1. I do not connect both display simultaneously. One output has VPR connected. The other one doesnt. It works, until I hook an HDMI cable to the output. But this HDMI cable is not connected to anything!!!
2. The source is a DVD player, I don't think that it uses HDCP protection
I'm puzzled. As soon as I plug the HDMI cable the VPR stop working. Does an HDMI cable has some electonic in it?
Thanks for the info kruger

There must be something about the cable that allows the source to sense it being connected. Maybe the splitter has the capability to sense another connection being made. I think it has something to do with HDCP protection.

I'm still puzzled. A cable is just a piece of copper. How can a splitter detect that a cable has been connected?
I can understand if TWO projectors does not show the image. But one projector and one cable...???
If does not work, which is the use of the splitter, if turning off the device (nor disconnecting the cable from the DEVICE) can resume the view?
Ciao
