Hi,

I can get (at an interesting price) a set of new P16LMJ07 tubes, which are for NEC retroprojectors but which - I am told by the seller - can be used in my G70 after the G2 pin is jumpered, making them equivalent to P16LJE07 and directly useable in a G70.
Still, I see in
http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony_G70_Tube_Swap10.shtm
that further modifications are needed on the C-blocks to use P16LJE07 (G70 tubes are P16LJE08).

Has anybody some experience with these tubes?

Thanks,

Pier

If they are NEC retro tubes (I think they are - get a picture to confirm), then they are electrically identical to a P16LJE07, and a P16LJE07 can be made to work in a G70.

So yes it could be done. It's the G1 pin from memory and you'll need to add a resistor - search for P16LJE07 mods in AVS archive. Posts by Chris Bigos and Chuchuf will help you find the info.

Mark,

The tubes come from a NEC XG-751RP retro projector and are P16LMJ07 for sure. They have the HV lead on the side (any problem in a G70 from this?).

I think your point about the G1 and the resistor (from KH, ie G3, to ground) is the same as what shown in the link I posted, to go from LJE07 to LJE08, so to speak. Thanks anyway.

The question I have is that, though LMJ07 and LJE07 are electrically equivalent, the pins apparently are not the same and a small mod is needed.

If anybody could confirm this it would be very helpful.

No, my friend's XG has retro tubes fitted (I forgot to take a picture of the tube numbers), and the electron guns are identical to the LJE07. There is no mod needed in an XG. Therefore the 07 mod to fit in a G70 will be applicable.

I do not know if the side mounted HV lead will cause an issue in a G70, I don't have a G70. You'll have to look for yourself.

Ahh, I didn't know Curt had documented that info!! I thought it would be buried in the AVS archives.
