Hi,

Well it goes like this, I was testing some modded video cards and I forgot to plug in the data cable going to the switcher card when I powered it up, the power came up then turned off about 5 seconds later. Now it won't power up, the processor board and the remote panel powers up but nothing else. I can see the remote communicating with the PJ. I pulled everycard and checked all the fuses but they're all good.

I'm sure I did this once before and nothing happened I just plugged in the cable and away it went, but not this time. Anyone have any ideas.

Kal, your boards are going to be held up a while until I get this fixed, sorry.

I see there is an error light and the RCU light when I try to turn the pj on with the remote. Not sure what the error is telling because the cable is plugged back in, unless of course it's polling an error from elsewhere.

Thanks
Walter

Oh crap Walter! Sorry to hear that!

Damned, I should have bought that spare Zenith 1200 from Curt a year or so ago when I had the chance (the one that had one of the glycol bellows cut). I'd send you spare boards to help troubleshoot.

Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Kal

P.S. I changed your subject line a bit to make sure more people with the same projector (all 3 of us Smile) see it.

It should only be the SMPS.

HI Curt,

YEah there's no leds on at all on the SMPS. I can't imagine it took out something major on it. I'm just trying to figure out where the power is distributed, as the controller board is still powered.

It just seems odd that forgetting to plug in a controller cable to the switcher board would do a lot of damage other than pop a fuse, but you never know I guess.

Curt, you've never forgotten to plug that cable back in before?

Thanks for changing it Kal.

You have all the schematics right Walter (I can't imagine you wouldn't). Let me know.

Kal

Hi Kal,

Yes, thanks, I have all the manuals. Interesting enough that in none of the manuals does it tell you what the leds on the controller board signify.

Well at least when it went down there were no flashes from the tubes(the room was dark) and no (burnt) circuit smells. It was just one of those " I'll give the boards a quick check then I'm calling it quits for the night" deal and in my haste I forgot to plug in the cable, daaahh.

I've left that connector unplugged a many times, with no real harm being done.

With the set off, set your source to 720P (low band) or any other lower band rate. Fire the set back up and post what LED's illuminate on the input board (R762719).

Hi Mike,

Yeah that's what I thought too, because I was sure I had done that once before too and nothing happened.

BUt when I connect the control cable back up and try to power it up there's nothing for power on the SMPS, no leds on, the only leds that are on are the ones on the controller board, the processor cycling and the error and RCU which flashes when I try to power it up with the remote.

So that said I can't do what you suggest.

Thanks

Curt,

What do you think might be gone on the SMPS that would kill it like that?

So what boards can I pull safely pullout to see if something is holding down the SMPS from starting?

THe IR receivers, the keypad, the EHT board. Convergence board. A short on any of those will load down the standby supply and prevent startup. Otherwise the standby supply is fine, and the main SMPS simply died.

HI Curt,

Just seems odd that it died like that. Do you have one you can send me to try? What typically goes on these supplies?

Yes I guess the startup supply is fine because the processor/keypad is working.

Thanks for your help.

Well that's odd, Just for the H of it I thought lets power it up and see what happens, it fired up and works fine. That's odd, but hey I'll take it.

Hopefully it'll stay working and that was just a freak happening. But it did seem odd that leaving that cable off would do any damage.

Thanks for everyones help.

Walter
