I have a marquee 8000. And although everyone says you can't run 1080p to it, i do. I feel that the slight softening of the image at 1080p still looks better than 720p/1080i,. I currently run my HTPC through VGA at 1080p/72hz with no problems.
Anywho, I bought a new preamp that has hdmi switching etc. I connect it to Moome's DVI port (hdmi/DVI).
Last night I tried to run a PS3 set to 1080p/24 through it. I got a scrambled screen and a green box with [sync?].
What does this mean? Can I resolve this issue? How?
Thank you
Darren

You can't run a CRT at 24 Hz. You'll need a processor to bump that up to at least 48 Hz. No processor can do 1080p/72.

You can't send 1080p/24 directly to a CRT - they won't synch at 24hz refresh. Even if they did, the flicker would give you an epileptic seizure in no time.
1080p/24 is for use with a digital display primarily, or if you want to use it with a CRT, you can use a processor to make 1080p/48 (or eventually 72hz) from the 24hz input signal.

I recently picked up a PS3 and HDFury to go with my Marquee 9500 and experimented with 24p last night. I haven't had time to check out what others are doing, but here is my initial setup:
PS3 1(output 1080p24)
to
Lumagen HDPPro (output 1080i @ 72)
to
HDFury green edition (5 BNC)
to
Extron ADA 2-300 HV video distributer ($26 off ebay)
to
50 feet of RGB cable
to
Marquee 9500 Ultra
So far, Spiderman looks jerky, haha, I mean his movements aren't smooth. It's very obvious, and I'm sure it's operator error.
The picture is very sharp though, and colors look great. If I hit pause, it's very impressive. But anything moving looks jerky.
I have (fun) work to do.

Your Lumagen can do 1080i/96 also, you could try that to see if you like it more.
Also, make sure the jerkiness is not just the 24 fps. Try something like the classic tests--the pan down at the beginning of Shakespeare in Love or the entry of the Imperial Cruiser in Star Wars. Try those at 60 and 72. 72 should look smoother and 96 should look even better.
