Hello,

I want the value of a high-end CRTs estimate. It is a VDC Marquee 9500LC ULTRA with HD10GT17 optics, built in Aug. 2004, with only 400 hours of operation. The projector is like new.
What you pay for this VDC Marquee 9500LC ULTRA with HD10GT17 optics. Tubes are also like new?

I want your honest opinion. What is the cost of these projectors in this top condition from the end 2004?

Thanks

if a professional reseller sells it with warranty it may be worth up to $9k.

But even for Curt, Terry or Tim it would be VERY hard to find a buyer at that price.

When selling as a private individual it will not get you much more than maybe $3.5k.

If it truly has only 400 hours on it, it's worth more than $3.5K. I've never seen a 2004 built Marquee come up for sale privatly. I know Tim had a couple of brand new (2006 built I think) VDC Marquee projectors that he wanted around $20K for.

If the projector is in perfect conditon with all original parts with perfect tubes, I wouldn't sell it for less than $8K.

Chris.

Hey,

Can't tell you what I would pay for it because I already have the CRT FP of my dreams.

It may be worth quite a lot but managing to sell it for a lot will be tricky.

Good Luck,

Brian

They come up from time to time.

One particular unit has been available since early last year or even before that from a reseller, and it doesn't sell. Asking price is less than 7k Euros.

Here's an expired listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120196680716
and the last listing with the price already below 5,900 Euros: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=75405&item=120217376709
It is actually the PJ thxbest is asking about.

Another one recently sold for 3.5k Euros:

Tubes 8/9/9

3500 Euros ($5250 US) seems like a very good price for a 2004 built Marquee with tubes in that conditon.

I also think that the one priced at 5900 Euros ($8850 US) is a reasonable asking price considering it only has 400 hours on the tubes (tube pics would help his auction) It's basically brand new, I would expect it to be much more reliable than some of our 10-15 year old projectors. If I didn't already have a 9500 Ultra I would offer 5000 Euros shipped to Canada and see how the seller responded.

I love the inherent humour in posts that seek to find the "value" of a given object.

"Value" is virtually entirely held within the hands of the buyer.

CRT projectors have very few buyers left, in the entire world. Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw an actual bid on any of Curt's auctions ?

Search closed, completed auctions on ebay, and then search for the same sellers re-listing of those completed auctions because the original buyer was a scammer from Nigeria and see what the REAL selling price eventually was...it will be an eye opener.

No one here who is a reseller for profit wants you to think your projector isn't worth thousands and thousands of dollars, but the reality is that crt projector values have fallen like a stone, especially in the last 6 months. Part of that is the advent of true 1080p digital projectors which compete quite well with crt in overall image quality. When you can buy a brand new, decent looking digital for under $3000., and often for under $2000. with rebates, etc, that cuts the number of potential buyers for your used machine down considerably.

Even conceding there are still a very small group of buyers specifically looking for crt projectors, the number of people who are specifically looking for them who aren't educated about the virtually total lack of price support, is shrinking exponentially every day. You may still be a lucky fellow and find one of the un-educated willing to pay you $8000. for your projector, but personally, I'd estimate the odds are slim.

Here's a great example of a "new" projector. Its not a 9500LC by any stretch of the imagination, but its from a reputable seller and only has the "run in" hours on it:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32862&item=130200040232
Hammerhead Tech sold some brand new in box 808 retro's for $1100. each.
Again, not 9500LC's, but then again, expecting to get eight times these prices might be optimistic.

Sad but true. Aside for a tiny niche market, CRT is now dead. I myself have been dumping the last of my stock for whatever I can get just so I won't end up sitting on them. I rebuild CRT broadcast monitors, so these were used in color critical applications. I still get service and the occasional sale, but it's maybe 15% of what it was.
The same holds true for CRT projection. "WE" know how good they are, but given other choices, there is only so much anyone is willing to pay. Perceived value or not.

someone got a dam good deal on that 808S, but it's still a 10 year old projector, out of production, and you can no longer get new sony tubes for it. The thread is about an almost new 9500LC that 4 years old. A brand new one is about $40K
http://vdcds.com/products/crt/8110-8500-9500.html
so $8K seems reasonable, especially in the EU. Pretty awful listing though, that guy has no clue about how to sell something.
