About a year ago I bought a surplus Sony D50 for $250. We've been projecting it onto white painted drywall, wall. The only problem we've had is that the blue tube has some burn in issues, not too bad. Tonight I bought a surplus Electrohome 8110 for $450. I went and examined the tubes the other day and they seemed pretty good, better than the D50 anyway, no obvious burn in. My question is, will we see an improvement?

Yes definately. EM tubes will provide a sharper picture, in addition to other good qualitys of the marquee.

be aware that while the marquee is an excellent PJ that will run for tens of thousands of hours, there are some things that should be done for reliability and perfromance. First off the P14 voltage of 6.35VDC is critical. Second, there are some caps on the neck-boards and deflection modules that should be replaced. Also a few other minor bulletins that should be done as well.
Other than that a Moome HDMI card and true HD feed will really make this machine throw a reference quality pic.

"P14 voltage of 6.35VDC is critical" among the other things you mentioned. Where would you suggest I look for more information on those topics? Probably the projectors section on this page?

Interesting thanks,

Joe

the P14 check is described bottom of this page
http://www.etechvideo.com/techtip1.htm
everything else is either in the Mike Parker maintenace thread or the technical bulletins under Marquee on this site. Be aware that the majority of the bulletins listed here are for the old 8000/9000 and don't apply to the 8110
