I am a new user at this forum and new to CRT's in general.
Only recently I took the leap to CRT and purchased a Barco Data 708s unit
with P16LNG22 tubes. The chassis has 6500 hours on it but the tubes have only 3500h
on them. They are beginning to show a bit of wear, as the unit has been used
mostly in a home theatre so it has strange wear - in 16:9 mode the top of the image is brighter
than the rest of the image. The tubes are now maybe 7 6 7 on the rating chart green being the worst.

Now; I have an opportunity to buy a earlier model 708 set with Toshiba T180 tubes
(or so the seller says) and they should be in good condition. Although I have not yet seen
the tubes personally. The seller does not seem to know much about the set he's selling.

The question: if the T180 tubes are indeed very good - at least better than the P16's -
will they also give better picture than the P16's?

Edit: I must add the set with T180 tubes is very cheap, a few € so it's tempting to buy it
anyway...

The P16 tubes are sharper and a bit brighter than the T180s.

So the worn out P16's will outperform even not so worn-out T180's?

I guess I really need to see the set in person...

If nothing else, grab the set for spare parts. THe 70X aren't the most reliable chassis.
