There is a guy local who is selling a handful of XG 110LC projectors at not a bad price.

Currently, I have a Marquee 8500 that I got dirt cheap, and was planning to use temporarrilly until I had time and money to pick up a cheap 9", probably an Ampro 4600/4200 or a Sony 1292.

I know according to the specs, M8500 < XG 110lc < Ampro 4x000, and many people have opinions, but I'd like to hear from people who have used either both an M8500 and XG, an XG and or other 9", and or all 3. I know the XG and 1292 can be loud, but I have it my screen setup with an RPS system, so it hopefully won't matter a whole lot. That, and I'm pretty handy and could easilly build a hush box if need be.

How much difference is it? Is it like eating a Filet vs. a Sirloin as far as sharpness, contrast, and or color on the above combos?

I've got really good vision and can rip my marquee apart(but I think a lot of that is being new to setup which I hope the DVD I have on order will help me with). Realistically though, it is still the best picture I've ever seen, and 5 minutes into the movie, I start to notice it a whole lot less, if at all.

I don't know what kind of shape the XGs tubes are in, but if they're decent, I figure it will only be a couple of hundred bucks to upgrade.

Thoughts and or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If the tubes are good pick them ALL up. An LC machine will look better than an AC marquee and the NEC's are known for being sharp and having good colors.

It will be harder to setup than a Marquee but should be worth it in the end.

Love the marquee 8500, I never owned anything else but with the hd144 lenses and some mods you can do your self the marquee is a lot of fun. check out some screen shots on the marquee group purchase maintanence thread.

I'd never take a 1292 because they are too loud. And XG110LC if well set up is nice and should actually spank a 9" Ampro. The downside of the XG is that they are loud.

The Quee uses 180 tubes, the XG uses much sharper tubes. The XG will spank a Quee.

One other thing, really check the tube wear, the XG manual says to set the machine up WAAAAY too far back. Most I've seen have followed that advice and the tubes get pretty worn in a short time, and they are worn using only about 65% of the phosphor width, so you can't set it up correctly without seeing color differences at the edge.

It's possible that I know these sets, and have seen tube pix. About 3000 hours per set, wear on all G and B tubes. A couple are usable, most needed to be retubed. The guy I was talking to was asking $1000 each orignally, later dropped to $700. I offered less than that.

Yes I think so. There's a few guys in Baltimore that used to deal in CRTs, but I think most are out of the game now. I'm pretty sure the guy with the lot of NECs was there, and he wasn't one of the 'regular' guys I used to buy sets from, so I think he was a little unrealistic as to what he should ask for them.

Sadly a nice member just messaged me about the update in the ebay ad that says they aren't LC(of course the top of the ad still says they are). I swear it didn't say that yesterday, not that it matters now.

Oh well. Maybe if that Ampro 4200 you have on ebay stays around long enough I'll bite. Regardless, I'll probably be sending a donation your way some time soon, as I feel kind of guilty, since I was 2 steps away from buying that Barco 1200 last year, and ended up coming across a dirt cheap 8500 w/ Draper RPS system. It was on Videogon for 6 months, an after negotiation, the projector was practically a throw away.

I kind of feel like a tool cause I spent a lot of your time with emails and all. I'm probably not the only one who has done it to you, but I do feel guilty.

I really need to finish my basement before I spend big bucks, though if an offer too good to pass up comes up, logic will go out the window.
