How stripped down does a tube need to be for shipping?

I talked with Gina at VDC and she said to ship it with the glycol chamber and anode lead still on it. BTW this is a P16 from a Sony G70. I have the tube out of the PJ and the coils and stuff off the tube...by "stuff" I mean the electrical parts. My question is about the remaining hardware?...does it need to come off too? This is my first tube removal and I'll admit I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to advanced procedures on these machines. Any help and foresight is welcome.

Thanks
Dave

I would remove the yoke and magnetic hardware off the neck.

You've probably seen this, but if not, it will be helpful. Also, remember to break-in your new rebuilt tube when you receive it.

Hello

What is your reason for sending the tube?

I've been following the "G 70 tube swap" guide, but it is for bare tube! I don't need to go down to bare tube. In the guide it looks like the rest of the hardware...ie- the spring tensioned screws and frame- hold the tube face to the glycol chamber. And what about the gear looking things???

The reason for the tube change is that the blue tube has an image burnt into the middle of the viewing area that needs to be fixed before this pj takes main stage in the theater.

thanks guys
Dave

Say Dave

Take the yokes off and send it with the LC chamber attached, that is how we send Marquee tubes in. Make sure the tube neck is stress relieved, I use heavy cardboard tubes that extend past the pins at the skinny end.

I would just follow the instructions up to the end of pg 2. Send it in with no neck hardware, but leave all the C-element hardware and such(including the gear) in place.

So ....only the 3 electrical pieces have to come off?...and it's ready to go?

That seems to easy....was I just overcomplicating this procedure?

Dave

Yep the 3 pieces slide off the neck, and then leave all of the rest on there.

Getting it back together is pretty straightforward, adjusting is a bit tougher.

It is extremely unlikely that VDC will rebuild your tube and turn it around in a time acceptable to anyone... its' just a "core" like on a rebuildable car part.
They will provide the service of LC chamber swap (probably also core'd) and a new HV lead appropriate to your set, because these are not really "field serviceable" (in the minds of somebody responsible for a warranty) and can cause the most trouble for the end-user.

Well I talked to Gina Studdard (at VDC) earlier in the week and she said that right now they're getting them back out in about 24hours. At $695.00 for NEW tube. So you are correct, my tube is just core and they swap the chamber and lead to the new tube. I am still curious about the lead though. I thought it took a week or so for the adhesive to fully cure. She didn't say anything about that?
Doesn't matter right now anyway....I still have to build the bracket to fit my mount in my attic.
