see Yahoo article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080215/bs_nm/walmart_dvd_dc_5;_ylt=ApwtmobD8_ib1oV9740k.EUE1vAI

Walmart, Best Buy, Netflix, and the list grows onwards.
- says Microsoft now discussing using the blu-ray also.

My local Walmart barely supported HD-DVD at all. Or Blu-Ray, for that matter. I believe it only ever had a handful of HD-DVD players for sale, never prominently displayed, and only the PS3 for a Blu-Ray player. Software, until recently, was not to found and the titles they do have now are in a locked case.

Best Buy hasn't decided to drop HD-DVD yet, it only said it will promote Blu-Ray more.

I avoid Walmart whenever possible. The clientele resembles a trailer park just a little too closely for my comfort. I'd much rather pay a few bucks more and shop at Target for most of our family's consumer good needs.

Ironically, the last time I set foot in a Walmart was to take advantage of the 40GB PS3 w/10 free BD disks offer on the Saturday after Black Friday back in November. It could be another six months or more until I have a reason to go there again. Once or twice a year is about it for me and Walmart.

You prefer more expensive hardware, more expensive titles, region codes, and an incomplete format specification with less interactivity?

Ah well, screw it. Let's see $5 HD DVD titles! It's time to make a list of HD DVDs I'm going to buy from the firesale! No firesale for you, Blu-ray guys! Not yours! Yes, having two HDM players down the road isn't the most ideal situation, though my scaler has plenty of inputs.

Oh and I can't seem to do any better than the 1.75 U.S. on the laminate.. They will sell me tile that 50% of retail.. and I have bought laminate before and never had a problem...

I have a couple more calls to make.. I never thought to call my cabinet guy... maybe he buys enough of the stuff...

OK, here's some on-topic fodder for the discussion. I went to Wal-Mart today to pick up a booster seat for the little girl (that's twice at Wal-Mart in 3 months - that has to be a record for me). Anyway, I'm in the market for Casino Royal and the Dave Matthews concert disc, and thought if it was only a few more bucks than Amazon, I'd pick them up. How many titles did they have? Try about 65. Whoop-dee-friggin' do.

This is it? The future of HDTV and movies at home... an end cap? 65 titles? How is Wal-Mart even a player in HDM if this is how many titles they're going to stock? Granted, it's a Wal-Mart, but this is a SUPER Wal-Mart in one of two most affluent parts of town and adjacent to an upscale shopping mall. It had a hair salon in it for chrissakes!!!

Predictably, they had neither disc I wanted and the prices were mostly $10 higher than Amazon, anyway. Not interested.

Apparently, I can't buy HDM locally. The only place that carries a decent selection is Best Buy and I won't pay their rip-off prices.

WTF?

HEHE... All the "lies" ecrabb... When trying to claim victory for Blue Ray it doesn't matter the reality of how big a player Wal-Mart is in the HD Market.. They Are WALMART... and they went Blue ray... My guess is when trying to sell your victory, that is all that is important...
