This is very confusing , if I put the HV splitter where its suppose to go and screw the case and everything back together , I get wicked arcing so bad it screws up the picture . The only way to stop it is to unscrew the HV block and let it hang down and the arcing goes away . I have tried cleaning the plugs , checked for dirty connectors in the block and all seems good . It only does it when I screw the block back onto the plastic tube housing . Could I have a leaking HV block ?? Confused

If your there Gino , I believe you had problems with this arcing and soldered a new tip on the lead from the HV supply . I don't believe this is the problem , I have resoldered that tip twice now , very carefuly .

Yes, it's very possible for a splitter to have leakage. To test, grab it with one hand, hold the chassis with the other, have a friend turn the set on.....Wink

NO, DON'T DO THAT!

I've got lots of spares though if you want one.

Does this look normal ?? see the 3 marks on the back of it . If it where leaking I thought i would see a crack or something , is this a common thing for marquees ?

I'll also get some 246 CPC magnets from you too Curt

Got everything in stock, shoot me an email. If there are any black marks on the block that aren't dust, that's a bad thing. You're dealing with 34Kv here, stuff that can arc over 2" of air, so you don't need a crack to get massive arcing. It's relatively rare for the splitters to fail, but it does happen.

Looks toast to me.
HV can arc from a pin hole, and like curt said at least 2" at this voltage.

I tried resoldering the tips based on Tim's advice. Thought I had sh*t soldering skills so I just wrapped the HV splitter and left it sitting there...

Well, that's what I thought because I couldn't stop the arcing.
