I've been having fits with the remote for my 8500 since day one. The range is awful, and it drives me crazy when I am trying to do convergence, focus or anything else where I want to stand close to the screen while adjusting something. It simply doesn't work.
I wind up in this comical position of one arm stretching back toward the projector while I bend forward and back at the waist, trying to get close enough to the screen to see small changes and then close enough to the projector for the remote to register. That still doesn't work very well.
Anything over ~5 feet is totally hit or miss, and even when I am closer than that strange things sometimes happen. It is as if the projector registers a different button than the one I have pressed, occasionally.
Is all this par for the course, or is there perhaps something I can do? I tried the most obvious solution of putting in fresh batteries, but that didn't change anything.

I always had good luck with my Marquee remote when I had my 8000. Range was great and it always worked just like it should.
I used Duracell batteries and did notice a drop in performance when I subbed in some rechargeable batteries.
My range was >20'

Good grief, I'm an idiot.
On the strength of your reply, I figured what the hell and tried another new set of batteries. Works like gangbusters now.
I must have gotten a used one in there the first time I changed them, or something.
Thanks.

Joust, Why do you say they are hard on batteries, mine lasted six monthes on average | I have seen 2 or 3 in 5 years that ate abtteries, it means the remote isn't functioning properly. On and no, I don't know how you would fix that. Best guess is that a dirty contact on one of the buttons is causing a low and constant current draw?
