I'm thinking of a retro reflective screen for use with my gaming projector. What do you think of this paint over say Wilsonart? Would there be a better substrate to use? Maybe a silver paint?
I'm not sure which projector will end up gaming right now but it looks like it will be the Runco 900 (NEC 6PG) Screen size will be small and it's just me, a mouse and a keyboard that need to be able to see the screen so viewing cone doesn't bother me.
Anyone here tried something crazy like this?

I wouldn't. You're talking about a teensy screen. You have no need for high gain. If you do a 70" diagonal 4:3 screen, that's only 56" wide. A 6PG lights up an 85" wide screen just fine. Your 56" wide screen will have less than half the area of the 85" wide screen, so it should be about 2.3x brighter.
Instead of messing around with an unknown-how-fussy-it-is retro paint that requires your eyes to be close to the PJ, I'd just slap up a piece of Wilsonart. Or BO cloth, for that matter. But the Wilsonart would be smoother.

I'm no gamer, but I understand lots of games are MUCH better with good shadow detail.
And I wouldn't worry much about burning tubes. With the little screen he's talking about, he could probably run the contrast at 40 and put 10000 hrs on it without burn.

I know you're (half) kidding, but in all honesty, I find the newest crop of games for my 360 to be just as engaging and exciting as watching movies - I don't consider it a waste of tubes at all, I game on my 9500LC 8)

What he said.
Good shadow detail is critical for the newest generation of games. Some come with built in gamma control, most don't. I wish they all would. I don't have any external gamma adjustability so find myself twiddling and tweeking the B&C until I find a happy medium between washed out and digital looking. Usually I end up around 60 and 65 respectively. I hate to push the tubes that hard but I do love my games.

Games are F'ing incredible in a theater on a CRT. Screw a digital. Halo 3 is downright scary sometimes. I'm not a big gamer, but it totally kicks ass. I do turn brightness up a bit and contrast down a tad. More brightness because it's hard to see in the shadows on some of the games (like Halo 3), and contrast down to go easy on the tubes.
Forza Motorsport racing is awesome, too... Crank the sound up, and listen to the V12 in a Ferrari F355 wind down a straight-away at 180MPH at the Nuhrburgring in Germany or hammer around the track at Road Atlanta in a Z06. The sound in these games is as incredible as the graphics if you have a good sound system. It's not quite as exciting as the real thing, but it's as close as some will ever get. Well, Perisoft's motion sim would be fun too, but my sound and display kicks its ass.

I'll forgive this because I love the models shirt or lack there of. And those ab's DAMN!
In the words of usenet X-no, Archive-YES, XXX Absolutely!
Now sorry lost focus ( me? never lol )
I can't belive I'm saying this, but can we get back on topic for a post or two?
Have any of you guys tried the retro reflective paint?
I'm planing on running a RTC 2200 with the gama bump to an RGBHV duplexer and have my G520 and my NEC/Runco running at the same time. I want the shadow detail.
I have the crappy sony duplexer ( 100Mhz bandwidth ) which other one should I be looking for?
I hate getting sniped from the shadows by El-Camperelo. OTH then I spend the rest of the night chasing him from server to server and sometime from game to game, JUST-KILLING-HIM.
It's what I like to call the Venidiction.
right...paint... I'd love to be able to fire the NEC up to 25 brightness and 50 contrast, not burn the tubes and play for 5 hours strait.

Jeremy I have used quite a few retro paints (as well as a lot of other retro products) and those aerosol cans were the worst, not to mention they will cost you close to what you can buy a used model b High power for.
The wilsonart substrate alone will cost you close to what a cheap HP screen costs .
I have a formula and some products left over for a diy Retro screen . I could send you some but it is a pretty involved spraying project and needs the right equipment .

Hey Steve, you want frigging creepy...get your hands on a copy of Fear. It's a FPS (I love FPS's) but it's very dark, and has many 'things' that jump out at you. I just played it again on the hardest level and it was just as frigging creepy the second time around. It gives my blood pressure meds a good workout that's for sure! The first time I played it, all by my lonesome, in a blacked out theater, I think my ass was out of the seat more than it was in it that's how startling it can get.
Call of Duty 4 was/is an excellent game. Visually stunning, good selection of weapons, good story line....but like Halo 3, IMO, too short. The lack of coop multiplayer games pisses me off to no end (the reason for short single player modes IMO). All to feed Xbox Live.
I can't wait for Army of Two. It keeps getting pushed back....for the last three years!!! The trailer even got yanked from Xbox Marketplace...not a good sign.
Ooops. Sorry OP. I shanghi'd your post.

There is not mant deals when I looked around today, BUT there is a couple of pull down HP's on Videogon right now. The model C is pretty good screen for using as is, But the model B's are better to just strip off the material and make your own screen they wave too easily.
The 72"x96" Model B he's asking $160.
The other model C 106" 16x9 screen he is asking 300 but he is in Toronto and is a CRTer .
I thought you were looking for a big screen but if a 72" will do you then you could always go to a retro unit I know where you can get a good deal on one .
