From my admittedly limited old-time TV work, I think these primarily will help if the cathode is weak. Bursts of high voltage to the heater and cathode were claimed to bring additional oxide to the cathode surface, improving emission.
I can't see how they'd help much if the phosphor is burned. If the tube face looks good but the picture is dim, why not try it? (Considering the tubes is otherwise shot.)
There is some info on these on the Web, especially classic TV tech

One thing that I have seen rejuvinators help with is with secondary emmisions. If the CRT won't cut-off with G-2 at minimum sometimes "blasting" the contamination off of the cathode will clear things up. YMMV.

Joust,
Yes, it would help. BUUUUT with trinitrons you'd need to use a Sencore CR-7000. Anything older is TOO powerful for the trinitron gun and will likely kill it completely. I had to upgrade from the older CR-70 to the CR-7000 because I service mostly trinitron based sets. Yes it works, it's (obviously) worth it since the analyzer cost $2000 new.
You could try it with an old cheapo analyzer off ebay, but if you do... hit the cathode for only a second or two and check. A full "hit" can strip the cathode. I've done it with the CR-70. One second and check. If needed, another second or 2. NEVER the full 15 second cycle. On pretty much ANY other tube type these units work very well.

Thanks Tinman,
I'd go for the B&K if Papalek doesn't want it.
Don't want to bid against you guys.

Joust, I see various models of the sencore go on Govliq all the time - but I dunno if it's hard(er) for you to buy because you're out of the country?

I have absolutely no idea. But if you can get the analyzer/restorer that Tinman uses for 50-100 bucks, wouldn't you? Just set up an automated search so you're emailed every time a listing contains "Sencore"...you'll find one in no time.

I am going to try the B+K. If I can get it for the opening bid it will only cost me $15 including shipping. That makes it cheap enough for me to have kicking around here if I ever figure out how to use it. And if I ever have a need for it.

Sure, as long as I don't have to do on-site pickup or anything, and you cover all shipping fees
I'll PM you with my email address, just send me an email if there's something (small, not a PJ ) you want to buy.

If you guys can get a CR-70 (cheap) by all means go for it. Very simple to use. Very good unit. Still one of the best out there.
