I have a Carver PM 1.5 pro amp that I have driving the 21" sub in bridged mode. When I go to use it the left channel has almost no out put. Very little sound and no or little movement of the led meter for that channel. But If I turn up the bass to the max with some music with heavy bass it will start working right. The bass will only have to hit about 4 or five times for it to come alive. It will increase with each hit until it matches the other channel. I can then watch a complete movie with great bass. It will continue to work as long as it is being worked regularly during the movie or music. If there is not much bass for a while it will drop back out. The right channel works perfect.
I am just getting tired of having to juice it up before any action movie in order for it to work right during the movie. And if there is a long area of little action during the movie it will drop back out again. The sub still works but at much lower levels with only one channel driving it.
I have sprayed contact cleaner in all the contacts.switches and volume controls on the amp. I do not think anything is dirty causing it to drop out. Besides I do not have to touch the amp to get it back working but just crank up the bass.
Any ideas?

I fixed a Precedent 1100A that I got as a deal as the guy said the amp only worked in the bridged mode. Turns out only one channel was working correctly the other would come and go. Took me a while to find it, but one connector that looked like it was correctly plugged in was just barely making contact.
With problems like you describe I usually check the input and output solder connections first. The plugs have so much leverage and usually get banged around so much that they end up breaking the solder joint on the board.
These amps are very well built, they use heavy duty components, so I would not suspect them.

BAd connection or a transistor has an intermittent junction that starts working when you drive it hard.
