I'm ready to cut my height pieces for my screen. My width is 6 feet. What length should my height be. After scouring google I found that it should be 41 inches. Is this my only choice. I can't find a detailed guide in here that explains 16:9 and the size of your screen. Will mainly be using a PS3 for movies and games at 16:9. I guess whats confusing me is I can set up my barco 701 to fill in any screen size. But that doesn't mean my PS3 will fill in the same area, right? I might be letting my brain get in the way on this one. Also trying to make sure I don't screw up my tubes with a lack of knowledge about the raster. [/list]

6 ft.= 72 inches.
72/16=4.5
4.5*9=40.5 inches Very Happy

Others will have to chime in about setting up the 701..NO experience with a 701 here unforunately Smile

If you want your screen to be exactly 72 wide, then I agree completely with using the math provided by Sonynut. Be sure when cutting pieces to take into account how they will join at the corners. For example, if you mitre cut the corners, the longest point of the mitre will be the total height and width. If you butt the ends, either then width boards or the height boards will be on the outside edges of the other two. example: |___| in which case you need to add the width of the joining boards to the overall length, which changes the math. If your piece is 72, and the width of the board are 1.5 , then the width is now 75, making the height needed 42.2 for 16:9. If you have the projector mounted, measure the projected image, making sure it is the correct dimensions first (get something from the PS3 on the screen that you know is a true square, and make sure it is square)

Wrong. Aspect ratio and resolution are not dependent upon each other.

Person99, If you have time explain a bit further. Are you saying that the screen does not have to be certain size to be a 16:9 screen. That my projector will fill in whatever I set it up with. Wont it stretch the video.

Ok if your screen is 16:19 or 72: 40.5 it is all the same... You want the thing 144 : 81.. Sure go for that ....

But if you make your screen.. 16 :8 or 72 : 36 you are going to have to "stretch" the video. Now you can do this with your projector, but many around here would have to ask why you would want to...

So yeah... your screen can be pretty much any size you want it to be... But most would suggest maintaining the proper aspect ratio...

Start here...
