I know they are different tubes but I was wondering if they would swap?

The 9PGXtra uses P16JLE and the 6PGplus uses E8508. Are the mounts, neckboards, G2's etc similar enough to swap them?

No. the necks are too short to accomodate the Xtra magnetics. I tried it.

What if you swap the magnetics over too?

You can use the Red and Blue, but not the Green.

I gave my brother an Xtra I fitted with a PG blue. The mechanical G2 is too high, so the tube is bright on startup, but once the electronics kick in it's fine (AKB counteracts G2).

I'm thinking of doing exactly that, I have a decent PG blue, and an Xtra with a good green and red, can I do a ref/mech/white to bring the blue G2 in line mechanically, or is there some difference in tube or neckboard electronics that won't allow a plain PG blue to ever be a match in an Xtra chassis ?

I too, in the past, have simply allowed the AKB to compensate, but if possible, I'd maybe want this one to done by the book as it might end up being my own, every day workhorse...

And I'm not afraid of the ref/mech/white. I've got the tools, and friends that know how to use them...

Sure! Just as long as you don't call Doug to clean up the mess later.

I have heard that it can burn out the neck boards as well.

Is there any way we can get a more complete explanation than just "dang" ?

Do the PG tubes use different voltages ??

Can the neckboard for the Xtra be modified at all like Marquee neckboards are to accommodate 180DVB tubes ?

It works fine with no mods. My brother's Xtra has done a few hundred hours now, no problems.

And yes I think the mech white balance will have the range, I just couldn't be bothered, the set came out of the dumpster.
