I am not even sure how to explain all this so I will simplify the question. I have a D50 and primarily use for Football in HD with looks great. I am now however getting the bug to watch movies and tv on it. However for whatever reason these are not as bright. (yes it is an hd signal still) . Heres my concern, because of the layout of the room, the projector is pretty much right the only place it can be. If I go to bigger tubes I will not be able to utilize them..............right? If I am thinking this through correctly I would have to shrink the pic way down on the raster which would probably take away the additional brightness. In other words I assume going to say a G70 or something would really require me to move the mounting point back. I have a little flexibility in screen size as I am just stretching blackout cloth and could pretty much customize the screen size................
thanks for any input

You're right, I have no idea what you're talking about..
What is the screen width, and what is the distance from the lenses to the screen? you should be about at a 1.4 X the width of the screen throw.
If football looks good, then there's no reason why movies shouldn't look the same. A BR or HD DVD player at 1080i should look identical to 1080i HD broadcasts.

thanks for your reply. With alldo respect a live sporting event under great lighting is a better signal. In a nutshell, if I pull a D50 out and put in a projector with bigger tubes what would have to take place?

Lot's of heavy lifting
Actually Curt's right. The movie should be just as bright as the sporting event. Provided you aren't watching a really dark movie.

The lenses on our machines are all pretty close in throw distance..plus by nature, a bigger image(on the tube face such as with larger tubes) will take less distance to fill the screen anyhow. Unless your machine is backed all the way to the wall, you should be fine. There may be other lens options for a g70 also, with shorter throws(maybe HD 144/145?). I am sure those in the know will chime in. You may want to mention throw distance in the thread title to get more attention.
