Picked up a Vidikron LD40 line doubler for $15 bucks yesterday at the Langley Value Village near Curt's house. Is this yours Curt? or maybe another forum member in Langley? I googled it and was I suprised to see the original MSRP was like 8 grand in the mid 90's. Anyway I hooked it up to my 1270 an I was pleasantly surprised,(I was running straight S-video before), I have had a HTPC set up before, but it crapped out months ago and I just haven't replace it. The only problem is there are green bands throughout the image. I can reduce them by playing with the tint control on the LD40. I have three thoughts on this. 1.) I have really bad BNC cables. 2.) The tint control is dirty and needs cleaning, or 3.) Bad solder joints or bad caps. Has anyone who has had this unit had similar trouble? I think I can fix it and if I can't I only spent $15.

Good score. I've found some great stuff at thrift stores. It's a garage sale every day!

I would love to find some tube gear at a thrift store. The VCR and cheap DVD players are sure stacking up though.

Not here. Value Village hasn't discovered the internet yet. Neither have churches that have rummage sales or the typical garage sale putter-onner.

I think one VV has figured it out. There is one in Burnaby on Kingsway near Edmonds that gets some good electronics like Marantz recievers and such, but their prices are a little out of line IMHO for a thrift store.

same up here in Kamloops,(I guess they are a for profit company) I saw a set of home built speakers with 80's phillips drivers in there a while ago for 79$ !! Shocked it is the second string shops and thrift cellars...and church yard sales etc that really suprise me sometimes- some real gold if you know what to look for.

The Thrift stores in San Diego are not much good, I think most of the good stuff gets picked over by the employees first, anything that looks like it has value they want top dollar for.

Now the yard sales are killer, can expect to pay ten cents on the dollar for most stuff. Everything you need under the Sun is out there, you just have to be patient. I've been spoiled, any time I go into a store I get sticker shock. "Dam, I could get that at a garage sale for one tenth that price, no tax to boot".

The other thing that a lot of guys do not realize is you meet and talk to all kinds of very friendly women! I still remember this one sale I went too this last summer, it was a hot day, the hotter the better, I ended up at sale with five very friendly, hot, not much on, women. They were closing up shop and asked me if there was anything there I would be interested in. Mannnnnnn, was I, all five of them!

Deron.
