hey guys, i have been working on getting my nec setup all weekend. i worked on it about a total of 10 hours, while i have made alot of progress, i am far from good. i am getting pretty frustrated with this thing now lol. i know it will be worth the work when i am done but good lord its testing my patience. anywho im close but i am unsure how to get everything where i want it. and when i try to save it says somethign about cant save due to no enty or something to that effect. it was working yesterday until i copied an imput to another slot now i can only get an image for a second while its flipping from one input to another. see if you guys can get me going in the right direction .ill try to get screen shots tonight

Do you have much experience setting up CRT's. The NEC's are considered one of the more difficult brands to set up, which is why I cut my teeth on a Barco 808S.

Read this, and follow it start to finish.

If you haven't wiped out all of your memory settings, you might be able to do a 'data copy' from one location to another and restore your work. If not, you have to start from scratch.. Do a signal entry first.
If your memory dumps again, you could have a bad system board, that can cause random memory dumping.

As a followup to other posts, let us know where you are, when you can host a setup party.
We will in turn let you know how much beer and of what quality will be required to lure us over. 8)

Yes, but where are you? We are a large and generous bunch, with people just about anywhere who can help in person (beer and wings being the most common compensation!)

I love Hooters hotwings, but I know nothing about setting up projectors.

OK... Now were gettin somewhere!
While my NEC Karma is pretty good, I'm in Massachusetts. Curt Palme is in British Colombia, Canada, the webmaster for this site is in the greater Toronto area IIRC, well... you get the picture.
C'mon guys! Buck up... Who is in the VA region?

I do suggest you download the "tinman/feathers" PG setup guide located in the advanced procedures section of this site. Read through it and understand the terminology prior to going back in. Try to resolve all questions prior to starting the setup. From my experiance, NEC is not one of the hardest to set up, it is the hardest. However, if you follow those instructions to the letter, you can make it work for you. As no one else has mentioned it here and I hope it's not to late, DO NOT TOUCH ANY INTERNAL ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS. If you do it will be out of calibration and require re-calibration with a scope. With that said, the biggest problem with a NEC and someone new to CRT is they don't take the mounting of the projector seriously enough. There is no fudge room here. it must be exact. If not, you will struggle and never be rewarded with what the PG can really do. One correctly installed and set up is eye candy. There are higher resolution, more expensive projectors out there but none of them can beat the PG for color reproduction. Yes, even the mighty G-90. For all it can do, in stock form doesn't hold a candle to the PG in the color reproduction department.

It sounds like your not hitting on the signal entry you made that your working on and why it says 'can not store no signal entry'
When you do a signal entry name it so you can check that your staying on it. In the settings turn on 'manual' menu so it will stay up on the screen. Check this as you go along. (Don't forget to put it back to auto when done)
If you have a similar signal entry already it could be going to that instead of what you entered. You can try to put your signal entry at the top of the input list so it will hit on it first. The projector multi syncs from the top of the input list working its way down until it finds a match.
Each change of resolution needs to be entered in the entry list. ie: 1080I, 720P, etc. When making a signal entry make sure you select the right input ie: video or RGB. Its also helpful to select 'temporary' at the entry so it doesn't go to the 'default' that was stored before or that may have been stored to default by mistake. When you get all done you can store the ' nice' settings to the default area.
Keep an eye on the signal name your working on. (Also the input) if you loose it. Doug
Note: Check your HDSTB video settings and unselect 'native' or if it has mulit selections unselect all except for one like 1080I so it will force one output resolution. Later when you get things under control you can add 720P but you dont want the HDSTB to be changing output freqs when you change channels. Some channels are native SD 480P, 720P, most are 1080I. Discovery HD is a good 1080I native channel.
