Can anyone help with this problem, I have been given a Blu-Ray disc player for my birthday, I have connected it to my system to play on the 1251 I set the output settings to 480i as I am using my Taw scaler to increase resolution. I get a strip of picture on the uper half of the screen, and horizontal scan lines on the lower half of the screen. I have tried different resolutions and refresh rates without success, does anyone have any suggestions Sad

Sounds like what happens when you try to input 480p on a 480i input.

The more important question is why are you using the scaler at all with a BD player? You're throwing away a massive amount of the resolution on the Blu-ray disc when you output 480i, then use the Taw scaler to scale it back up.

The best method would be to go out of the Blu-ray player either component to a transcoder or HDMI to an HD Fury, then RGB to a second input on the projector or to a pass-through input on the Taw (if it has one). That way, you'd be all HD from source to the projector. 1080i HD from an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player on a 12xx is a beautiful thing if you haven't seen it already.

I have only one RGBHV feed which is wired into the wall then across the roof to the PJ mounting on the ceiling,
I have got everything going through a Pioneer receiver which does component switching then to the Taw then up to the 1251 on a single feed. The idea of the Blu-Ray was to replace my Nakamichi DVD10 which plays ordinary DVD's great but will not play copies or photo discs, so I thought a Blu-ray player will do all of these things + give me the higher quality output.

I guess if you're not planning on playing any Blu-ray discs on it, then that's fine... Although I wouldn't be surprised if the scaler in the new Blu-ray player wasn't as good or better than the old Taw scaler - but, that's completely a guess.

If you do plan on watching any Blu-ray content, the picture you're going to get routing the signal through the Taw will be far inferior to what you'd get if you used one of the methods I mentioned earlier.

Do you have any other sources? If not, you could completely eliminate the Taw and use an HD Fury and a distribution amp. If you do have other sources connected to the receiver/Taw, you could get a basic RGB switch and switch between the Taw and the output from the HD Fury.

Just a thought.

Running 1080i? I LOVE 1080i HD-DVD and BD on my good old 1271. It's freakin' beautiful. I'd rather have it than than the best, most expensive 720p digital ever made. Seriously. It's that good. So film-like.

The only way I would take some exotic 720p digital (like a Runco or Sim2 or something) is if I could sell it and buy a G90. Wait, even if it was $20,000 a few years ago, I'd probably only get enough money for it to buy a G70. That'd be fine, too.

Sounds like a plan... I use to have friends offer me chebbys and phords. I said GREAT! I'll take it...and buy a Dodge. Thumbs Up

I've run my 1252 at 1080i. Upscalled DVD looked great. Broadcast HD was sweet too.
