Oh boy, have you ever come to the wrong forum. We don't do no stinkin' digitals here! Curt might have something pithy to say about this, but until he does, I suggest asking this question over on the RP Forum on AVSForum.

Well actually he DID post it in the right section of the forum. Confused

Just because there is not very many here with digitals does not mean he can't ask a question in the DIGITAL section. Wink

There is a very simple solution to this, follow these instruction;
1) Unplug the set and disconnect all input devices (DVD players, HD boxes, etc)
2) Drag that POS to the curb and help the garbage man heave it into the garbage truck
3) Give Curt a call and get yourself a real projector Smile

Actually if I got a good local source for cheap dead digitals, plasmas and LCDs, I'd dive right in. I just finished repairing 4 Creative Labs MP3 players out of the 7 as is that I bought. I broke one permanently learning how to pull it apart. One was damaged beyond repair by the seller (I didn't read the ad carefully!), and one had a bad display. I repaired two others by swapping boards from the damaged units, and one needed a new hard drive that I bought from China for $35 on ebay instead of the $89 they wanted here in the US and Canada.

Considering one MP3 player had 1800 + songs on it that are currently being transferred to my hard drive, I did pretty well with something 'digital' that shouldn't be repairable. I'm buying 5 more on ebay now that I know where to get hard drives from and how to pull them apart. Bet I'll get 4 ouf 5 working in the next batch!

I also have a question about DLP, though most of my viewing is on 1272 with Johns card and a 6pg plus.
I was given a Dwin Transvision 1 last week with no remote or controller. The owners manual says it will not work correctly without the controller. A guy on ebay has one listed and says it can be used without the controller from a component dvd. My old RShack remote was able to power it on but no picture or any light from the Dwin. I tried emailing and phoning Dwin, no response. Any one know how I could get this to show a picture?

If you powered it on, but didn't get any light output, then the lamp is probably dead. It's likely a $500 part from Dwin, which is well in excess of what the projector is worth - which is likely why someone gave it away.

It is most likely a timing issue with the color wheel. There are adjustments for it in the service menu. A qualified service tech should be able to fix it.

I'm no expert, but I can pretend to be and give you my 2 cents.

At a quick glance, it seems like this is a common problem with the optical engine. If it is the optics, its probably a gradual change to all colors, and green is noticed first because it is what your eye is most sensitive to.

Does it do it with all sources? If so, its probably the optical engine. If not, its probably a problem in a circuit doing ADC conversion or some input specific processing.

I'd use something to display RGB patterns individually, like a computer, jpeg on a flash drive, or a calibration DVD to see if all colors have the problem. If you have one of the 6 chip DLPs, you may be able to try and unplug one set at a time and see if one causes the problem. I've never looked at a DLP innards, so that may not be feasible.
