I'm currently running a PS3 through component (1080i) for Blu-ray but want to add HD-DVD as well. I'm looking at either the HD-A3 or HD-A30. My only hangup is the 1080p output on the A30. I've been using CRT's for a number of years and the consensus was always that an 8" could not successfully do 1080p. I know the G70 can sync to the 1080p signal but does it actually "resolve" it. Is anyone successfully running 1080p on a G70 without the picture becoming soft? My G70 is in mint condition (<500 hours on Sony OEM tubes) but I'm sure I would need to redo the setup to dial it in.

Right now I'm running my G70 at 1920*800p on a 2.40:1 screen. I think it looks pretty good. it isn't resolving the picture 100% but it is sharp enough for me. Try it out and then make up your mind. Personally I prefer the slightly soft image I'm getting to jaggies and artifacts I always got running 1080i. However this was with a PC. You might get better 1080i with a HD-DVD player.

I run 1080p on my G70 and it looks sharp. (Signal goes PS3 -> HDMI to DVI Cable-> HDFury -> G70.)

I can even load up a text website like this and it's still sharp.

It's possible it's not fully resolved out the the edges but it looks great.

Brian,

Do you run 1080p for all your material or just for 1080p sources?

I run my G70 at 1080i through a HD-a1 and whilst not 1080p it is still a Stunning picture, and I can argue "fully resolved".
Because I'm maximizing my raster the lens characteristics and aberrations causes my corners to be a little softer than the centre, I'd not want to 'soften' the picture with 1080p....
