I have a Mitsubishi HD1080 Diamond Series HDTV (Rear Projection) Model VS-50803 with the 5 BNC connectors (RGBHV) for attaching a Mitsubishi HD Receiver. Is there anyone out there that has successfully connected the Green HD Fury successfully on this particular model of HDTV (or any rear projection HDTV model with these connectors)?

I would like to attach a Toshiba HD-DVD player. Eventually, I'd like to connect the HD-DVD, a ScientificAtlanta Explorer 8300HD Receiver and a Blu-Ray Disc player to the HD Fury via a HDMI switch.

The folks at HKMod.com recommended I contact you for GREEN edition support. They also indicated that the Afaik Mitsubishi projector has a known issue with the image centering.

The RGBhv input (whether the physical is BNC or RCA) shouldn't matter one bit. I have a Diamond 65907 and instead of BNC connectors they are RCA style. I can configure the input for Component 1080i or RGBhv 1080i. While I do have the HDfury, I have not tried it out on that RPTV.

BTW, I thought the Toshiba HD DVD players also had Component output as well. Does your Diamond have a configurable (shared) YPbPr/RGBhv input, or is it absent on the HD Component?

Hey WanMan,

The Toshiba HD DVD player does have Component output. However, my Diamond has separate Component and RGBhv inputs. The Component input is limited to 480P. Using the Component connection, neither the HD DVD or the SA Explorer 8300HD will work.

I was also told by the local Mitsubishi dealer (Audio Warehouse) to use RCA to BNC adapters on the component cable to connect to the RGB inputs. They thought it would work without the HV cables, but the TV didn't recognize the signal, and the picture was blank.

BTW - the RGBhv connection was meant for the Mitsubishi HD Receiver, which also has a "control" cable (I think it's a DB9). The Mitsu HD Receiver has no extra inputs for external devices, so there's no point buying one. Although, I wondered if the RGBhv connection would work without the "control" connection, or is that simply an interface between the HD Receiver similar to the Home Theater or IR Link connection?

I do not know what year your unit was manufactured, but I bought mine at the end of 2000--before Mitsubishi had an HD receiver. In fact, I thought when they came out with a DTV receiver for sold RPTV units the offer for those owners was an integrated digital receiver solution that required a service call.

I've successfully used the same physical inputs for RGBhv (vai RCA DTC-100 DirecTV/OTA) and YPbPr (Xbox 360). There is no control connection that I am aware of on my RPTV. I'd go into the RPTV's setup and configure the DTV input and see if it offers Component (YPbPr).

Looks like there are plenty of guys that got that very set working with the RGBHV connection and 1080i devices. Looks like you need to do something with a service menu to force the input to "DTV", which I assume forces the set to synch to 1080i only, and then make sure that your source is 1080i and 1080i only.

Given all that, I'd guess the HD Fury will work, provided your source(s) are set to 1080i - just as the other devices in that thread. I think it's certainly worth a try. You could always sell the HD Fury for close to what you paid for it on this very forum - especially with the RGBHV adapter. Might cost you $20 or $30 to give it a whirl.

WanMan: My RPTV was manufactured in 1998. When Mitsubishi offered the DTV Receivers I had the choice of a set-top box or an internal upgrade. At the time, both options cost $600, and I couldn't even subscribe to HD Programming from my cable company. And BTW, my TV is one of the early HDTV's from Mitsu.....50" 4:3 config.

ecrabb: Thanks for the link and your input. I haven't actually purchased the HD Fury yet--I wanted some assurance it would work without the shifting problem some folks have on projectors. I have no shift adjustment on this TV.

Jim, there may be a shift adjustment in the service menu. I'm not sure however how to axcess that.

To Enter the Service Mode

With the set turned on, press the Menu button once.
Press the buttons 2, 3, 5, and 7 in sequence.
The screen will change and the service mode will come up.
Use the Audio +/- buttons to cycle through the various adjustment functions. (If you’re using the new remote, you can only cycle in one direction. The menu will loop from the last category back to the first.) The current function is displayed in the top left corner of the menu.

"Video Chr" is used for adjusting color temperature, DC restoration, front panel controls, and color decoder settings.
"Iris" is used for adjusting the IRIS control.
"Deflection Jungle" is used to adjust geometry.
Use the Video +/- buttons to cycle through the various adjustments within each function. (Again, with the new remote you can only go forward, and must wait for the menu to loop back to the beginning.) The adjustment is a number listed in the lower left corner of the menu. The name of the adjustment is to the right of this number.

Mitsubishi Service Menu Access Codes

As long as we are discussing Mits, here is a table of activation codes for recent Mitsubishi RPTVs. Each of these codes is preceded by a press of the MENU button on the remote (V19 Adjustment Menu = "MENU-0-1-5-7"). When in the Convergence mode, the 6, 5, and 4 buttons on the remote select Misc, Coarse, and Fine adjustment modes.
