Samsung BD-P1400 for $449 and they are advertising a manufacturer's rebate of $70. Also, they had the Toshiba HD-D3, which is nothing more than the A3 with an HDMI cable for Costco resale for $249. The Samsung is advertising its a 1080P device (probably 1080p24-->1080i60-->1080p??) and the D3 is like the A2 and 1080i 720P/1080i.
For those looking for HTPC memory Fry's has been selling memory for cheap. On Friday I bought 2GB PC6400 4-4-4-12 memory for $59.99, but this was 2x1GB. Yesterday the individual sticks were selling for $28. Neither offer was rebate based.

Also, has anyone heard that DirecTV is moving the HDnet and HDnet Movies (and UHD) to a new package in order to charge more money from their viewers)? This question came to me after I noticed a 160-GB 20-hour HD DVR for DirecTV at Costco. I do not know the model, which seems to be contrary to what D* is saying (50-hours of HD recording).

That same Blu-ray player is selling from Amazon right now for $340 out the door without a rebate.

Yes, and this pisses me off! I called DirecTV to protest, as I had recently resigned to a 2 year contract and received a new dish and hidef DVR for $30. Now my hidef channels have been pared down by around 20%, and they want to charge another $5 per month for these channels which were part of the $10/month hidef package when I signed up. Basically, they told me to go away and leave them alone...

They're moving UHD and HDNet Movies to MPEG-4, but not HDNet... and yeah, I'm pretty pissed off about it. They're trying to cram their sh*tty new hardware down everybody's throat and get them to sign 2-year agreements at the same time... and I'm not buying. Screw 'em.
They all suck... the cable companies, DirecTV, Dish, Qwest, Sprint, AT&T... they all suck ass. If it were up to me, I'd get rid of satellite and just watch off-the air. I could buy a new HD-DVD or BD movie every damn week for what I spend on my DirecTV sub. My wife is home all day with the kids, though and I'm pretty sure she'd go insane if she didn't have satellite and Tivo. Arrgghhhh...

i'm sure that you did this, but it you signed a contract for a specific set of channels (service) for a specific price, you have good leverage to get what you paid for or have them adjust the price terms of your contract. be nice, but bump it up the food chain until you get someone who is willing/able to make the angry customer go away by giving them what they want.

I'd just about guarantee their contract is written to let them screw you at any time in any way they choose...
