Hey, I just bought my CRT projector (Sony 1252Q) and haven't had the time to set it up yet because I'm in the process of moving, but I had a strange sort of idea. Is it possible to misalign the colors on purpose to use with 3d glasses? I don't know if this has been tried before or if it even makes sense, but I figured it's worth asking. Thanks.

You mean the 'anaglyphic" 3D method- if you already have a set of the red/blue glasses, do a google search for 'anaglyphic' and you'll find a bunch of sites about it. There's a few movies on DVD in anaglyphic- Shrek 3D is one. The effect is fairly limited on my LCD monitor but I'll bet it's better on a good front projector.

I think the video display would have to be very accurately converged and focused for this effect to work right.

I read about a company called Sensio that's working on an alternating-frame 3D system for home use, their equipment is expensive at this point, and you have to use discs encoded with their format for it to work.

If anyone has been doing any form of 3D with a CRT projector- tell us!

Thanks, mhalsan

I have Spykids in 3D and it works very good. Some of the things look like they are coming out into the room. The kids love it.

Convergence needs to be spot on and good gray scale is very important to get the propper effects.

I have tried mis-aligning the pictures and viewing with the coloured 3D glasses and although it gave a slight 3D effect the loss of quality and the colour change made me decide it was a bad idea.

No. This wouldn't work. The blue/red offset in a 3D movie varies by the distance of the object from the camera. That's what adds the 3rd dimension. If you do an intentional offset by mis-aligning the toe-in on the blue and/or red tube, then the offset would be the same for all objects in the picture... thus no depth info would be added.
