Hi all,
CRT newbie seeking for help.
My Data 801s puzzles me. Worked well for three months and has the following problems now:
- When I turn the set on quite often the top bow is totally bent. Adjusting it just one unit back and forth then does the trick and it just flips back to the setting it usually has.
- In this situation sometimes the set shows an I2C Error F8H when I try to adjust the top bow and starts pulsing, sometimes it passes through I think all possible addresses when reporting I2C errors and gives me a FAILURE: SHORT CIRCUIT ON I2C BUS afterwards.
- That was the point where I usually switched off the set quickly to prevent any further damage...
I just recorded a small sample video showing the pulsing image.
It's hard to find people with CRT beamer knowledge here in Germany.
The guy who sold that Barco to me said that the problem might be located in the convergence board
and he managed to get me one to exchange which I paid for but which obviously does not not fit into
my set *sigh*
So now I decided to ask the pros here in this community since I would really love to have my Barco back
working as it did when I bought it (3600 hours so far).
What can I do and what further information do you need from me to help track down that error?
Kind regards
Carsten

| 801 and 801s pre-series use that old convergence board in your picture.
Later 801s have newer two peace convergence tray. I can't remember was these different type boards interchangeable, Curt probably have tested it.

That chip adjust north-south corrections like top bow, but bad news is that it's Barcos own Bella 4 smd chip and there could be also some other problems.

I am seeing this a lot now with these 1 piece convergence boards.
1) Pull out the convergecne board and turn the set on. It should work with alot of I2R errors because the convergence board is out, but the set should show an image.
2) Check all resistors on that C board and check for bad solder joints. THe flexing of the large board over the years causes solder joints that are very hard to see. Usually it's a break right between the convergence IC solder pad, and the trace that runs from the pad to the rest of the set. Chances are you won't see the break, you'll have to measure it with a meter.
I do have lots of C boards here, but shipping is expensive.

Curt, I think hes pj have new style convergence board and that old one was sent to him as spare. Or vice versa.

It's pretty rare that the new style convergence boards fail, but if you do have the new style, that actually works better, as you can ship me the two boards and take them out of the tray, and shipping will be a lot less than sending the whole tray.

Hi there,
thanks a lot for your time
I really appreciate it.
This is the C board currently installed in my set:
@Curt: What would you charge for a replacement C board (PCBs only without complete tray to save shipment)?
And that daughter board which is sitting on the C board I cannot use is a green convergence addon, right?
Does it make sense to have this in a single set? (as far as I understand it's used to synchronize stacked sets)
In case it makes sense is it possible to transplant this one to my current C board?
Kind regards
Carsten

| I think it's part of that old design. I have seen that in many Barco and those doesn't had convergence for green.
New style board need R7625128 green convergence board.
