I fired up my recently acquired Barco 1209 and cannot get the tubes to light. The fans come on, the lights on the boards inside come on, the error light is not lit unless I push a button on the remote and then it comes on for a couple of seconds and then goes off. I have a DVD player connected to the video 1 input for a test signal. I have reset the boards and checked for loose connections and still nothing. I have read the manual numerous times and have gleaned no secrets from it. Is there something that I am doing wrong or anything that I should be looking for to lead me in the right direction? Does anyone have any more in depth manuals that would tell me what the various LED's indicate? I have pulled off one of the lens and the tubes appear to be nice and milky so I would really like to get this going.
Thanks
Dan

I actually took the time to look and found Curt's Barco primer. I will run through this to see if I can find the issue. If anyone has suggestions in the meantime that would be great.

I pushed "1" after the PJ started to select video input #1.

The tips section for the Barco 808 and 1208 should cover the good and bad lights all over the chassis.

Thanks, I found this right after posting. Still can't believe someone who makes his living doing this will provide so much information "free of charge".

It's like the motivational speaker free seminars. I entice with a buncha free info, but if you want a happy ending, you need to send me a board and I'll fix it.

Wait, that didn't exactly sound right..Wink

Does anyone have any photos indicating which board is which for this unit and also an LED layout. I am attempting to conduct some troubleshooting and am trying to find the "red scan fail LED" on the focus/g2 board. I have located the board but cannot find any indication as to what LED is what.
Thanks

Drice - its a strange concept, but I think its called "thinking abundance" not "scacity" and if you approach life with "abundance" you end up getting more business anyway Wink

Curt's very good at it. His primer has single handidly kept the CRT market going and even helped to bolster it. I remember 7 months ago, I already had a Ruby and started reading the primer. I thought "surely CRT is dead" but I now have four 9" projectors and they seem to be multiplying. I swear I didn't feed them after midnight and they are all kept dry! My cat walked in today, stared at one G90 - then stared at the second one that had just been delivered and got this very confused look on her face.

In following the troubleshooting tips I have come up with the following;

1. On the G2/Diagnostics board the following lights are off : +Conv and HTHD
2. The Scan Fail is red
3. The CONV Overvoltage is green.
4. Everything else is green.

On the small board attached to the H Card when I first power on the unit the LED toward the front of the PJ comes on red and then about 3 to 5 seconds later there is a bit of a high pitch sound and the light goes off. When this light goes off the +Conv, HTHD and Scan Fail on the G2 board all pulse on and then back off. The LED on the main H card is a dim red. The LED on the V card is a bright solid red. I know this is a shot in the dark but does this help in determining if it is the H or V card that is bad?
Thanks
Dan

It can be the SMPS< V board or H board or H shift board. Do you have spare boards to swap? If not, send me those 4 boards and I'll test/repair them here./

Only if 808s boards are compatible. Can you ballpark the repairs? Am I looking at $100, $600, blank check or somewhere in between?
Thanks

The G808s will work. Try the V b oard first. THe blanking might not work right, if not, then I'd need to repair the original.

$250 flat rate incl shipping.

Cheers!

Addendum to previous post. I have an 808 not 808s. Are the boards still compatible?
Thanks

Yes. Other than that the blanking controls might not work properly. All boards save select few which will look different (video boards) cannot be swapped between the two sets.

Tried swapping out the V-board from the 808 to the 1209 and released some smoke out of the board into the air. Al Gore is not happy with me.

Sorry, I am an idiot, no, the 1208/9 and 808 modules are not compatible and will release the magic smoke. I thought you wanted to know if you could swap 808 and 808s boards...Sad

You smoked the sub board on the 808 V board. I've got 3 dead ones here that I did that to as well.
