I've only seen one of these with a working projector. a couple of years ago I sold a PJ local and the woman would only buy the PJ if I set it up. I got top dollar for it so I said sure. The catch was that it had to be set up on the original screen. That ended up being a 72" Kloss curved silver screen. As soon as I saw it I said ohhh $hit, what have I got my self into. Anyway, it was to be a table mount so I measured the screen, did the math and placed the projector. It was 3:00PM on a sunny summer afternoon in a room with about 8 huge windows with no light control. I was sure I'd need to return to complete the installation but I fired it up anyway. WOW, it was just like watching a direct view set. I know it's a curved screen and will be brighter but what the hell is that silver covering made from? It looked like it was pewter in color vs silver or aluminum. Has anyone ever tried to grayscale one. I'd like to try and build one to experiment with.

Chip,
I have a customer that is using one (72") with a NEC PG 9200 floor (inside a nice table) and the screen fits inside a wall unit empty space. You couldn't talk him out of the screen. It looks to be a foil of some kind (pewter fits) and I would guess the gain of 3 may-be 4 in real time but I would bet it specs higher.

In this application the projector is on a angled base of maybe 12 degrees and the screen tilted down a bit. The optical core is set to hit right at eye level when seated and best viewed from that spot. Focus is perfect in all corners and it is plenty bright. I had to do quite a bit of settings work to 'tame' it and get D6500 right but at night it really looks good. The ambient light is pulled to the screen also and he has a lot of windows being at the beach. Dang that thing cranked on being bright and I was surprised how well blacks were handled when a light was on off to the side.

Cant remember my color-meter readings facing the lenses and then facing the screen to set to the room bounce but it was a huge difference. One 'click' of anything was to much but I could see why he didn't want to get rid of the screen. It had the cool factor also.

Narrow viewing cone if you have a grid pattern up but it worked very well in this room. Don't see many of the 72" still in good shape. Doug

I used to have the info on what Vutec used for their UHG screens, but it is gone. It is basically a translucent coating over a shiny surface like aluminized mylar. Here are some pics I did with aluminized mylar in the middle and Silverstar on the bottom.

I had two. One that came with an old sony, and one I acquired on Ebay that I picked up in Atlanta. I have the one that came with the sony, it's a 72 inch, and scratched all to hell. The other was an 80", and in much better condition, but man was it huge and clunky.

And my Ampro 2k looked frickin amazing on it when I had it on the coffee table. In the day with no light control, too. Problem was that it was about 20 inches deep (it tilted forwards and whatnot). Hard to fit that into a room.

I still have that scratched one, and I always wondered if I could recondition the surface. It's some sort of aluminum mylar coating. It scratches if you wipe it with Kleenex.

The 80" was a nova beam. The Sony was almost identical in makeup, just smaller.
