I've just moved into a new home and have my projector mounted and in place. I've mounted the projector a few inches closer to the 100" diagonal screen (I'm at 116" from the screen) than I was at my old home, but my vertical size is set to zero and the picture just fits. I can't move the projector any closer, unfortunetly.

Is there a way to verify that I have the vertical modification working?

I did a complete mechanical setup and verified red and blue screen size is correct.

Am I missing something?

Hello

Zero out all blanking in the projector, and tell us what is your H Size value.

Okay, crap I think.....

Tim, before I zeroed out the blanking I did a re-look at a mechanical setup and through in my Video Essentials DVD. I needed to re-adjust and in the end I had to take the horizontal size down to 60.

I'm a little confused because I'm sure that I'm nearly exactly the same distance I was from at the old house (116" from the 100" screen) and I remember the raster being in the 88-90 range.

The only difference that I can offer is my two sources changed models:

1) Satellite is now the new H20 DirecTV.
2) Instead of an HTPC, I'm now using a Oppo 981.

One more thing JUST changed also, I got one of the new Moome HDMI internal cards and I'm running both of the above sources through that.

Hello

You are a foot or more too far from the screen. At H Size 60 you will lose detail, light output, and the wear on the tube faces will be accelerated.

Hello

Try this......load a movie with a bright scene, and set H Size to 90. Tape a piece of white paper on each side of the screen, half way up. If you spill off the screen
seven inches each side, that totals fourteen inches, and your throw formula is 1.2, so 14 x 1.2 is 16.8 inches and that is how much the projector should come forward if possible. Or how much the screen could be moved closer if that is possible.

Tim, Thanks for the very great idea of moving the screen forward! I really can't move my projector forward but I sure can come up with a "clever" way of moving the screen forward and masking around it with "curtains" or something.

Okay, it's off to HD to get material for a frame Very Happy.

Say Jay

Tell us what your overspill measurement is; try it with all your source signals and use the values from the source with the least spill measurement. or you could end up too close. Do not use the internal grid, it is wider than any source.

Tim,
I check all my sources and my DVD player (Oppo HD81) had the most, while the Satellite had the least (both HDMI via the latest Moome input card). I built a frame out 13.75" from the wall and mounted the screen. Did a mechanical setup, astig re-do, converge and all is fine.

Satellite is at 90 H Size and DVD is at 84.

Bright and Contrast set at 50 and I did a Color Temp 6500 adjust.

All is well. Thanks for your input - AS ALWAYS!

You should see a better image from your efforts and the tubes will last longer. A well known shop here in Phoenix ceiling mounted a number of Vision Ones and other Marquees "by the book" for throw distance; I could tell by H Size values of 55 to 62, and every one had tubes worn in the center from using contrast at 60+.
