Hi,

I've stumbled upon a nice projector that's up for sale. (Estate)
From what I've been told, it's in excellent condition... no signs of wear,
roughly 1000 hours warm-up + 1900 dvd movie playing time.
I'm wondering if a price of $500 is fair or not. They can also sell me a Draper 16X9 fixed screen
for another $100.

My questions:
So, is this a good deal or should I be considering something else?
Will I have to invest much in the near future or will this last me a while... etc.
Is a scaler recommended? Can I connect via my HTPC using RGB or VGA?

As I am quite new at this, I don't know what to get and whether or not these are good deals considering
what's available. To add to the confusion, a friend of mine is selling a ECP4500 for $300!! Low hours.

I think it's fair price if tubes are in good shape. 801s is good choice for first crt, since it's easy to set up.
Barcos have modular structure, so it's easy to troubleshoot if it have problems. There is also lot of used parts available for this model. 801s is step up from ECP4500.

No scaler needed if you use pc. You need vga->5*bnc cable and it's also needed to chance sync polarities to negative from video card drivers or from powerstrip.

That screen price is also fine, if it's in good shape and are proper sized for you.
Do you know which screen surface it have? If it have M1300 material, it's very nice screen for crt.
