So I go to this house in Seattle today to connect an HDFury, etc and do a setup to this G90 that was installed in 2001. First off, props go to Definitive Audio, one of the high end audio installation companies in the Seattle area. I've dealt with them before, nice buncha guys.

So, I go into the room, the installer is talking to the customer in the other room. I start looking for the projector... the room is nicely laid out and VERY dead acoustically, thanks to the sound absorbing panels on the ceiling and walls, and the thick carpet at my feet. Comfy! Thumbs Up

So I look at the ceiling, no projector. I look at the coffee table that's wide open, no projector hiding there. The Stewart screen material is very white, so I'm thinking it's a FP setup. THen I'm thinking that I'm possibly in the wrong room, maybe there's a digital poking out of the soffit at the rear? Nope. I'm doing the 'WTF' head scratching, but then I notice a door open to the left of the 52 X 92 screen. Here's what I saw:

Audio-wise (looks a bit messy, it's being worked on), the MAP rack is a model that I haven't installed in a long time: It's got rails that sit on the floor (removable) so you can slide out the whole rack to work on it. Slide the rack into place, remove the rails, it all tucks into the wall unit.

THere are 2 pairs of Revel speakers for the surrounds, one pair on the rear ceiling, one pair built into the columns.
Two Servodrive subs (these kick ass!) powered by a Mark Levinson 150 lb amp that sits under the screen.

Note: 14 and 12 gauge PVC jacketed cable, none of this esoteric cable garbage.. Wink

The attic is fully open. I believe there's a quick release on the bracket to instantly crush would be burglars.. Wink

Wait a second ... this thing is hanging down from the attic? Now that's an interesting way of doing things! I wonder how he is keeping it cooled in the midst of Summer. Is the attic finished?

Oriented like that no smeg can fall into the guns of the CRT's and cause a short of the guns or heater filament.

It was killer. The only strange thing is that the main clock showed 11700 hours on it, the tube counter showed 1700. No idea where the extra 10K chassis hours came from! Scan lines at 8' at 1080i? Man oh man... Smile

Also, we connected the component 1080i out through the Denon receiver to the projector, then used a second RGB line using the HDMI out to the Sony as well at 1080i via the Fury. We saw no real difference in performance between the two. There was some color shift, but since there were two different memories used in the Sony, I didn't spend a lot of time setting both up to be identical. Once the BR player comes in and the Denon HDMI issue gets resolved we'll go HDMI all the way.

Very cool setup! I'm surprised by the white screen though. I experimented with a white shower curtain. It looked good, but light reflecting off of it REALLY lit up the projection room. Some of the reflected light bounced back onto the screen and ruined the black level of the picture. I think you would need the entire projection room to be black to have good results with a white screen.

The other problem was it was no better than a FP white screen in ambient light. Good ambient light performance is one of the biggest benefits to RP (at least in my mind). A gray screen accomplishes that (that's why all RPTVs have gray screens). And gray screens seem to make colors really saturate for some reason (maybe because of better blacks).

Anyway, that's a NICE setup!
