just wondering what thoughts are on this topic.

i currently have 1' vga breakout to 25'silver-plated copper rg-6 compression-terminated in bnc for rgbhv input to marquee8000.

im wondering if :

1) 25' vga cable to 1' breakout rgbhv cable at pj might be better ?

2) 25' vga cable to vga input at pj would be better ?

i just installed a 10m nice quality vga cable between a mac-mini and an elite 60" and the pq wrt sharpness and lack of noise/artifacts was pretty impressive.

i would have tried it on my rig before installing it for the customer except that i had it shipped to them directly. Sad

thanks.

with a good vga it is probably a non issue at that length, but the rg-6 is a better signal path.

Why separate the five signals for a mere foot? If you are considering the consequences of the last-foot then you are really more concerned with the physical interface at the projector, no?

On the other hand, if you are concern with the r, g, b, h, and v in proximity to one another I would think that finding the shorted breakout cable and making five RG-6 cables for the remaining 24' would be in order. You could also use premade cable and just find the necessary adapters for the ends:

Pre-made 25' RG-6 cable:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023501&p_id=2857&seq=1&format=2
RCA-to-BNC adapter:

Or, you could just get someone to make you a customer cable (like I did).

BlueJeansCable.com recommends a short breakout cable and longer runs of RG-6 above 17ft (IIRC). I don't have the tools to measure the difference, so I take their word for it.

I guess the real test is your eyes - set up both and if you can see a difference, then there is one, otherwise there is no difference.

Of course you could go all nutso and have someone (MP?) modify your HPTC's video card for 5xBNC output, too. Smile
