Hi everyone

My new apt's living room needs work, 2 floor to ceiling windows (12ft high) and one wall covered in mirrors (*sighs*)making light control difficult and the best position for my PJ is on the wall with back of the PJ facing the mirrors, which is a 117 inch throw distance OUCH!

I don't even think I can consider a ceiling mount, Sad. This is an old building and the ceiling is probably just old wood, ready to drop on my head. I'm thinking some kind of shelf but I cannot affix any bolts to the mirrors. Any suggestions on new DIY mount, screen and PJ setup are appreciated.

I like to use microsoft PAINT to create little pictures of floorplans. That might help?

Not sure how practical this is. It will probably look like a dorm room, but here goes:

You build what would appear to be a bunk bed without the lower mattress. Where the lower mattress would normally be is where your couch goes. The upper "deck" would hold your projector.

Like I said it will not be wife/GF friendly, but if I was single with very limited options I would mount my CRT. Wait, that may not have come out right... Wink

I still say paint the mirrors with spray paint. Just cover everything first. A nice flat black will do.

I'd check the policy on painting the apt. before I would spray the mirror; I would just put up lots of B/O curtains.

I agree with painting the mirror. The paint can be removed easily when you move. pjackso, I see you. Smile

The mirrors don't really bother me though as they are behind the couch. I would consider some type of peel and stick decals that I could peel off should push come to shove...I like the Idea of an upper deck for the PJ as I want to build a loft in my bedroom soon anyway.

I'm trying to think how I could brace the thing, maybe to the ceiling but thats almost like mounting the PJ...

Nice PAINT pictures! Better than mine ever are!!

I would suggest buying medium or limo tint film and place this over your windows and mirror. It's easy enough to remove. I think chipping away at a painted mirror would be easy, but extremely time consuming for a mirror of that size. The tint would come off a bit easier I think?

At the very least, you'll want blackout cloth backed curtains that lay flush with your walls and extend out away from the windows by maybe six inches in every direction. If you leave a couple inches between the wall and curtain, then light will just spill through the sides, bounce against the mirror and make the room way more bright than it has a right to be.

Probably about $150-200 in materials is what you're looking at to darken that room. OR... spend $10 on a lot of tape and aluminum foil for the windows and $5 on black paint for the mirror. It won't look as pretty but it will work the best.

The discoball is a cool addition also.

start with a drill, some screws and a saw, grab solid skids, strip the good wood, screw them together, use lots of screws. Sit projector on top, watch movies.
