This is a dead simple test pattern. It is nothing more than X drawn from corner to corner of the screen.
Its purpose is to check your linearity. Linearity, if properly set, ensures that a round object is always ROUND
at all points on the display, and doesn't turn into an oval at any point. An item that's moved across the screen
should not change size or shape.
This pattern's use is very simple: If the lines of the X have ANY bend to them, your linearity is NOT right.
Adjust for zero bend in any line.
If you're close to properly adjusted but not quite there yet, you will be able to sight down the lines from
close up to the screen and observe any remaining bend.
To me, linearity is the adjustment that is least understood and most commonly misadjusted as most
people just don't have an accurate enough eye for doing it entirely by how the grid looks.
Odds are that even your PC's (CRT) monitor isn't properly aligned with regard to linearity.
