|
|
I'm ticked off. I sent out a minty set of GT 17 lenses, in original shipping boxes no less... Customer says that the front corner focusing lens will not rotate. I know this is possible, I've had it happen twice here myself. One here was a small burr on the inside of the lens, that I managed to grind off with a Dremel tool, the other one I couldn't repair.
Anyone got any ideas short of a bit of silicone/Vaseline on the inside of the lenses to loosen these up?
There's no good reason for this lens to have seized up... the boxes are all foam lined..

This happened to me with one HD10F I managed to unlocking it by:
1. Apply compressed air in the knob sliders (those were the culprits) to clean up the dust
2. Appy some lubricating spray there too, very carefully, and very gently
3. Use a precision hammer to square the little thing that should be rotating via the slider (not the knob, but the other one)
That worked and I am using it perfectly.

Guys!
Always ship HD-10x lenses In Plastic Bags, otherwise the foam breaks down into little specks that fall into the lens barrels and could act like grit.

Hi
Sometimes if the lens is turned in to the extreme it can seize up when you mount to the CRT face. Taking it off and putting in the middle of the focusing range will solve the problem

I have some HD145's that still turn, but turn REALLY hard. I've been hesitant to take them apart and lubricate them because I was afraid whatever I used to lubricate could get on the lenses. E.g. graphite would be perfect, but....
What kind of lubricant is safe to use?

Gary,
Why would you need to lube the lenses once you had them apart; I'd think a good cleaning would do the trick, the lenses don't come lubed up do they?

You don't want any liquid to be sprayed on the lens because it WILL get inside and onto the lens faces. And it is a PAIN to take apart lens unless you have the correct lens wrench!!!

Maybe a good cleaning is all they need. Hopefully just a wipe-down with a lint-free cloth would do it?
