Guys, Looks like I am going to the states in June next year on the way to Europe.
Just thought I would post up in case there is anyone needing 1292 alignments done as I travel across the country.
Was going to get a rental and travel route 66 as part of a holiday. But can make a few detours if need be.
Catching up with mates is also a high priority.

You're in for a looooong drive. Make sure you watch Cars before you go! Most of the characters and locations in Cars were inspired by real characters and locations along Route 66. See http://www.historic66.com/cars/. I'd tell you to stop by & say hi, but I'm about 500 miles off your route! Probably too far to drive for a beer.

Graham,
That should be an awesome trip. Are you doing the whole Chicago to LA route? What a cool vacation - I hope to do it some day, too. I've lived in the US all my life, and even been every state 66 goes through, but I don't think I've ever actually seen any of the old Route 66 anywhere.

Yeah, I would have warned you about the hundreds of miles of desolate scrubland in the desert Southwest, but then I remembered you lived in Oz, and didn't bother. You'll probably think Death Valley is a garden spot.

The Outback is certainly desolate, but the East Coast is well forested with gum trees and up into Queensland is quite tropical. The East Coast is where all but one major city exist. But yes, things are spread out there.
Then there is Perth.

Oh ya, I know there are lots of green spots in Oz. I've been to Cairns. (Long before I knew Gino, unfortunately! )
Large areas of the interior are as desolate as almost anything in the US Southwest. But mostly I was just yankin' Graham.
EDIT: I should amend that statement: "Long before I knew Gino, FORTUNATELY!" It was my honeymoon. I think disappearing for an evening to hang out with CRT buddies would ****NOT**** have gone over well with the new wife!!!!

I have a real soft spot for the US west.
We went to CA, Nevada, Arizona and Utah early last year. It is a beautiful country. The high desert is just breath taking. It was by far my favourite part of the west so far.
I paticularly loved The Johsua tree national park.
Jenny and I vowed we would go back and travel route 66 with a convertable and go right right across.
I want to buy a HD cam and take a heap of 1080i video.
Jenny's daughter, is going to France on student exchange for a year. Starting in January. The airfare is almost the same to go all the way around the world as it is to go to Europe and back.
As far as I am concerned this is a fantastic reason to explore from LA to New York then across the Atlantic to France and Italy.
Better start selling more set up DVD's to pay for all this now Cummon Kal start marketing!!!!!
The world is pretty small these days. When are you buggers gonna visit Aussie ?? The gangs all here.

haha, funny you should mention that. a guy from an australian forum is getting married next month and taking a honeymoon up north, and will be popping in for a quick visit.

Gino, you said the guy would be "popping in" on his honeymoon. Huh huh... huh huh.
I would LOVE to visit Australia. My folks took a couple-week trip to Aus and NZ a few years ago and it looked absolutely incredible. That trip is definitely on the list of "to dos" before I get too old to enjoy it. I'd also love to visit friends in Germany, then Italy, then Ireland... Man, I better start making some big bucks pretty soon so I can afford to help two kids through college, buy toys AND travel.

Graham,
I might be interested in a set-up. I moved to Vegas a few years ago, and I "think" that Vegas is on Route 66.
Maybe someone can confirm that for me. Anyway, my only reservation with having you to stop by is:
I already have your DVD, so by June 2008, I should have the 1292 dialed in pretty good, right?
Just kidding. I am having a few issues with the PJ, and I am not sure if I want to keep it. But it is good to
know that you will be out this way, and I will keep that in mind.
BTW, the last time you visited the states, I believe someone did a lengthy(and positive) write-up on your
visit, maybe on the A site? Does anyone have a link to that post?

I tried to Drive to Cairns for my honeymoon in my 300ZX , I got as far as Airlie beach , got sting by stingray while spearfishing drunk . The next day I looked at the map to see how much further we needed to go , took one look at my wife shook my head and turned around back down the coast and never looked back . The whole trip took 6 days . 3 years later I flew up to cairns 1 hour 45 mins , Saweet Didn't get a chance to see Gino though

Spearfishing drunk?? Well that sounds like a good idea Airlie beach is beautiful, only a couple of hours north and you would have made it.

It was a good idea 5 years ago , would have been 4-5 hours more up the road , with a foot swelled up like a balloon . Was a good idea to turn back . I really like long trips , its the return journey that gets me .
I actually stayed at a beautiful litte place called dingo beach near airlie , have you been there Gino?

It was Ed Waltons 1292. His AVS forum name is "edsuski"
The thread is the alignment DVD thread on AVS from before Kal and I came to a marketing arrangment.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=679096
Ed is a great guy, we have since become pretty good mates. He is actually shipping my bargain VW100 RUBY I bought on AVS, over to me in the next week or so ( I know I am defecting, But I still have a 1292 as well )
We will be back in Vegas in any case. So yes, No prbs about a visit.
We where there for 5 days last time and had the best time. We stayed at the Stratosphere. It was so cheap I couldnt beleive it. I doubt they made it back from my gambling either.
The heli ride down into the canyon was the highlight of the trip. And the outlet malls are just amazing. I am bringing a couple of thousand to buy clothes etc next time. I have NEVER seen better value for the quality anywhere. Jenny and I always talk about when we go back.
I still recon we needed another 3 days at least to see the rest of Vegas We got about half way down the strip. 5 days is not enough. IMO you need 7 or 8 days in Vegas to see everything. It is just an amazing city.
Driving in the high desert was a great experience.
This is a big year for me. We move into a new house in 3 weeks, and I am getting married in November.
Finally after a long time, my life seems to be getting into some sort of order, money wize and personally. This is going to be a great time to be me. for a change.
The most important question ATM is " what rental convertable are we going to get " Suggestions please???
