Hi everyone
Like the title says, I want to get into HD. I hope I am in the right forum.
I had my pc running my little ECP pj mainly as a scaler. I took that out of the equation now and want to use the HT mainly for watching HVTV and SD/HDdvd's. I just want to have confirmation by people in the know that this is what I need. I plan on buying an hd box from my cable supplier.
I would then need an green HD Fury to convert the HDMI output of the cable box to vga so I could connect my 20 feet vga to 5 bnc cable. Later on, when there is a decision on which format either BR or HD-DVD will be king, I will buy an appropriate player.
Now if I read everything right, this should work as is. I won't need an htpc or scaler to have a nice picture now, would I?
I know that little ECP 4500 will never do 1080P or even 720P for that matter but will do 1080i. Will this be better than the sd dvd that I am watching now. I believe I had the pj set up to 1088 x 612 when I was running it from the pc. BTW that little projector came in a lot I bought about 3 years ago in its original sealed box and it is absolutely brand new even if it dates to 12/95. Must have been a goverment sale cause who else would buy a $15,000.00 pj just as a paper weight. It throws an awesome picture as is.
I am having a problem grasping the hdtv concept. Do you absolutely need one of the above 3 resolutions for it to be HD.
Is 540P the same as 1080i except it is progressive? Is this not considered HD?
I was thinking of building an dedicated htpc but would prefer this route if it is feasible and if it will give me a good quality picture; better than what I have know. Would appreciate your input and considering that I have a limited budget that would make it possible to buy the Fury and cable box for now. Thank's
Don

Everything you wrote looks pretty good except using the 20ft vga cable. The HDFury is not ment to drive a cable longer than about 6 inches, thats why it comes packaged with the short adapter cables. You would need to put the HDfury right at the projector and run a hdmi to dvi cable from the cable box to the fury. Also if your hdmi to dvi cable run is longer than 15 feet you should get the power supply that is being sold with the fury to power it. The other option is to get some kind of powered vga switch/extender that will run your 20ft of cable that you already have and plug the fury into that. Good Luck

Thank's for the reply. I have an Extron 109 xi box. Would that do the trick and allow the hdtv signal to pass.
