My projector has been sitting unused for a few months, but when I fired it back up last week green was the only tube that seemed to be doing anything. Red and blue were lit up, but dim and without signal it seems. Checked the troubleshooting, but didn't see this particular problem. Hoping its a problem that someone can say "oh, just twist the gizmo on the fluxmaster500 widget" and I'll be back in action. Sorry for the lack of detail, I'm posting from memory at work. Smile

Its a Barco Data 701s

Do you have an input connected to it? What input is selected? What are you feeding the set?

Yes I have a component input from a DVD player. I tried swapping cables around and each one is fine, gets sync on green etc. I'm going to cross off a variable by trying a composite source. Interestingly enough it appears that the red/blue tubes work properly intermittently (as in 10 scan lines, not 10 frames), but it seems random to my untrained eye.

Okay, so it turned out to be a false alarm from what I can tell. Composite worked fine, and after doing a little more cable wiggling component worked as well. Now its back to the painstaking process of trying to get things to converge and focus, which leads me to another question...

One corner of the screen (when projected its the upper left) is screwed up. Its very distorted and forget converging it.. Is that a symptom of failing tubes or an inexperienced raster placer (ie me). Will post pics as requested.

That is either a bad convergence board, or yes, you could be shooting the image off the edge of the tube face or lens face. Post a pix!

OK, Think about your question on failing tubes. What are the chances of all three tubes having exactly the same problem. A gazillion to one. If that corner is screwed up for all three colors then its a conv/regist problem. Are you saying you tried to correct it and it wont move in range or wont move at all?

When staring down the lenses it does not appear to be shooting off of the tube face at least, but I must admit, my brain takes a nosedive when trying to look thru those things. I'll take a couple of shots tonight and post them. Any particulars you guys would want to see? Down the lens, lenses off, just the screen, test pattern/DVD input etc..?

And to answer your first question, convergence will adjust in the region, but won't come even close to lining up.

Pix of the test grid. I've seen this before on Barcos, a sharp hook on one or more colors. Unplug all wires on the convergence board and it should go away.

I'll take pix tonight when I get home. I'm having a Dumb & Dumber party this Saturday and want to show off the sweet superiority of CRT projection, but don't want to misrepresent the breed. I look forward to your advice.

Hate to be a self-bumper, but anyone have a theory on my convergence bubble?

A bad convergence board. I've seen this before. I have stock or can repair yours.
