I have not had the pleasure of seeing a LC tube/ lens assembly up close but I would like to find drawings of one or if somone has one that is toasted I would sure like to be able to take a close look at it. I am interested in understanding what the LC unit looks like and how it works, what it is made of and the possibilities around making a LC conversion kit. One big question though is are the electronics within any XG capable of supporting the LC hardware from an optical and electrical standpoint? Seeing as there is the possibility of mods being available from Mike in terms of improving them electronically, it makes sense to look into improvements with the hardware and optics as well. That's where I have the tools and capability. This LC conversion may be impossible but until I am able to see for myself, I can't help but ponder the possibilities.

As time moves on I'm beginning to realize the MP mod's for the XG may never happen, and couple people have either tried to ship, or offered to ship test beds...but nothing has ever happened. So I wouldn't count on electronic mod's.
However the LC'ing of an AC'ed unit would be a step up, and as I understand it, the only difference is in the optical coupling, and nothing is any different with the electronics or chassis.

We've converted two AC XGs to LC.

But if I was in North America, it would be easier to just buy a LC XG to start with.

There are a couple of minor differences in the electronics (extra fan, and the Anode beam current is a tiny bit higher), but nothing of any real importance. Scanrate is different, and set by the EEPROM on the Osc board.

2nd and 3rd gen is slightly easier to convert, and basically becomes identical to the LC model of that generation.

There must be a way to get a unit to Mike. I will start with $50.00 to put into the pot. I know others have indicated that they would contribute as well. Maybe if someone more well known and respected in both forums than I am would do a poll or make a serious stab at putting funding together for either shipping a loaned XG or for purchase of one that is local for mike to pick up. Maybe Curt would be so kind as recieve and handle the funds as they are collected?

That's good news about the LC units being very close electronically. I would really like to see what the LC assembly looks like if someone could send me some pics or drawings. Mark did you use original XG LC couplings and install them on tubes or acuire the tubes c/w LC?
