that was $hitting his pants last January over having to sell off his toys (2 G-90's) after the loss of a job to insure that his family would have food and a roof over their head. Wink Oh, I remember now. It was *********** and now I think he's snapped. Laughing

Ok, let's put a nice stop to this now so that everyone has a very clear understanding of the situation.

I have Art's projector ON LOAN. I need an insurance policy so that my investment is protected and so that I don't end up with a boat anchor on the ceiling in my theater.

If I cannot pay off the projector in a year, I have to sell it.

No, I have NOT found a full time job yet. I've been contracting since January with promises since then that I would be hired and week after week after week goes by without an offer. I have no benefits nor do my wife and kids and yes, I'm still scared shitless.

I take it day by day and try to stay strong and focused. It's the best I can do right now considering..........

Art is a great friend and DID NOT have to do this and I thank him very much for being such a good friend and enabling me to have a spare parts projector in case something goes wrong.

I'll leave it at that.

Cliff, FWIW: I haven't had a full-time job since 1991. I've been contracting, without "benefits," for 16 years. We pay our own health insurance &etc. Being a gun-for-hire has a lot of advantages if you can swing it. I have a LOT more time flexibility, take a lot more time off, and make more money than I would as an employee. And I almost never have to go to meetings. Laughing

I wish I could afford health insurance. It's been a hell of a year. I try not to talk about it.

The good thing is we are all together and getting by. One day at a time. Very Happy

Gun for hire btw?

Are you bounty?

Uh, bounty? You may have misunderstood me -- "gun for hire" was just an expression. Smile My wife and I do contract work for large high-tech companies, mostly training development and delivery.

IMHO health insurance should come right after groceries, maybe after the mortgage. All it takes is one accident or illness to wipe you out. A family of 4 can get coverage for about $400/mo if you accept a high deductable. It won't cover routine care but it will protect you from a disaster. Unless you have pre-existing conditions, of course -- then it gets difficult.

I'll never understand how/why your health insurance is tied to your job.

The only thing dumber than that would be having your pension fund invest back into the company...

I should hook you guys up with my wifes employer. Ever since they off shored manufacturing and warehousing the company is in the crapper. It's turned the employees against each other in the face of a shrinking workforce which produces more work for the remaining ones, high level management is bailing out (gettin' while the gettin' is good?).
The biggest problem is the Mexican manufacturing and distribution arm....they just don't seem to grasp the concept of contractually commited production and delivery. This company has already spent so far since Jan 1 $1.5M for chartered flights for parts to Harley production plants in the US because of the above mentioned poor production and delivery.

Sorry OP...just wanted to throw that over to Gary.

I recently had to find another employer too. I moved right into another job, same type of work, got a promotion and title (whoopee...titles don't put food on the table necessarily), and a raise. I LOST healthcare and 401K tho. And my former employer found a way to screw me out of 8 years of 401K. Because my former employers core function was graphics and reproduction, there are documents in my file with my signature opting out and investing in losing stocks that zero'd out any dividends. And a lawyer wants what might as well be a billion dollars to "work on it".

Hang in there Cliff. We (my wife and I) wish you and your family the best during this nerve wracking time.

Greg

Ah yes, another big "money saver" that probably got some genius manager a bonus when he wrote off all those expensive US employees. And then he probably left before his brilliant solution blew up in their faces. God ya just gotta love offshoring. NOT!!

!? Are you saying the company used its graphics editing expertise to "create" documents with your signature??!

Wow, that's super cheap. Just curious how it compares, though... As a percentage, how much of your income goes to income taxes?

I'm not saying anything like that yet. I was told by the prez of the company when I left that years before I'd chosen not to enroll in the program. Horse hockey. I asked to see the contents of my folder during my exit interview and was denied. I could clearly see the colorful 401k forms in the folder but he wouldn't let me at them. I've requested copies three times now as afforded me under the WI Dept of Workforce Development guidelines and the laws of WI. The last request was a week ago this Wed. So we'll see. The guy's a scumbag so it wouldn't surprise me at all for him to finally relent and tell the state my file was "accidentally" shredded when it was misfiled with aged documents.
I fully expect my employment application to disappear too because on it I stated I needed sedentary work due to existing back problems. I wasn't legally required to divulge that but that's just my nature...no secrets. This is a huge deal because 2 years into employment I was instructed to perform duties that conflicted with lifetime restrictions and when I reminded that Jabba The Slut manager of mine (the prez's bro in law) he threatened my continued employment. Sure enough...POP....disc number three gone.
Anyway...I'm hijacking the thread and I apologize for that. It's too easy to get talking about these emotional things when they come up.

Greg

Gary, the problem is the masses are supporting this by buying all this crap. The manufactures would rather sell 1milion low cost products to lower income people, than 1000 good products to rich folk at a high margin. These moronic managers are just facilitors to the cause.
The "buy it and dump it" generation will go away in due time once the landfills are filled and the environmentalists get their way with toxic dumping. Unfortunately, we'll be retired byu then and not be able to buy expensive "goods". Wink
