|
|
Hi all,
i got some troubles with my BG808.
I put all my tubes out of the projector for maintenance and re-inserted and connected them again.
After i pressed the power button all tubes light up shortly and than there was transmitting impact on the green where the hv cable resides. A powered off as quick as i can. Waited some time, checked all cables and powered up again. The same problem. A low noise becoming louder and than transmitting impact
What might be the problem here ?
thanks a lot for your answers

Could you define impact? Do you mean like one very bright spot in the middle of the tube face?
EDIT: I just re-read OP's post....is he talking about arcing? I have an 800 I was going to fire up this weekend so that's the only reason I'm sticking my nose in here.

Disconnect the green HV lead from the splitter and see if the 'impact" (I'm also guessing arcing) stops. If so, you need a new HV lead. I have stock.

Curt,
fired up the set without the green. Blue and red seem to be ok, no impact/noise hearable or visible.
I think it's not on the tube face, it's on the HV lead before it gets inside the tube.
Send you mail for one hv lead, PayPal is done already.
Hope you can send it out asap
Hopefully that solves my problem.
But what is the problem with the hv lead ? cable too old ? cable broken ?

ElTopo....Curt is saying "Yes you can fire up the projector WITHOUT THE GREEN HV connected".
I'm saying DON'T remove the HV lead from the tube end and leave the cable connected to the splitter when you power it on....disconnect the green HV lead at the SPLITTER if you need (??) to power it up without a green tube working.
If you have arcing in the green lead you need to replace it. There's no way to fix an arcing cable. It HAS to be replaced. Send a PM to Curt and he'll take care of you.
BTW...If it were me with your projector I'd replace all three cables at the same time just to be safe.
Good luck!
Greg
NOTE: Where the heck are all the Barco pro's?

Can arcing damage the tube itself ?
@JustGreg: Yes, i think it's called arcing.

I don't know enough about tubes to help you with your tube question but I do know the biggest concern with arcing is an arc striking one of the cards/boards and taking that out. That's the most common reported result of a leaking HV cable anway.

I checked the hv splitter and put the red hv lead into the slot where normally the green resides.
Also not a problem, so i think the hv splitter should be fine.
So hopefully my green is not dead already and it's only the hv lead of this tube.
Will post asap when new hv lead arrives and will be fitted to the tube.
thanks

I disassembled the whole projector and cleaned it out.
So far so good, assembled the thing again. Put the blue tube in the set and fired it up without the green and red being in the projector.
Is this possible or not ?
After powering up the system i hear a low noise going "tick, 1 second pause, tick, 1 second pause, tick".
Tube neck of the blue lits up.
Shutted it down, cause i'm scared
Anyone heard that sound before on a Barco ?
Should i wait till blue and red are on their neckboards ?
thx for input
Florian

I had a ticking in my Marquee and it turned out to be the HVPS. I doubt that this is your problem unless all the tubes appear dead upon reinstallation.

If the tube neck is arcing in the blue tube, then your blue tube shattered and you need a new one. the blue tube pins will have 34,000 volts on them, and the ticking you hear is the HV arcing to the air via the pins. If the CRT socket is not installed on the tubes, but the HV is connected, and the ground wire is touching ground, there should be no arcing within the tube neck.
If the ground wire is not touching ground, and there is no light in the blue tube, you might be hearing the blue tube discharging to ground. That's normal if the black ground wire is not touching the chassis like it should be. THE ground wire is normally routed to the chassis via the CRT socket when the CRT socket is connected.

Curt,
the arcing problem was on the green tube i think, there was arcing when i saw it. Couldn't see it anywhere else as it happens few days ago.
Red and green tubes are not even in the projector at the moment.
Only the tube is inside and connected (deflection, focus, hv and all grounded and to neckboard). I don't get it !
The blue one is/was brand new and worked perfectly.
Should i disconnect all cables from blue and fire up the set again only with the HV connected to the splitter ?
When all cables were connected why could it happen that blue gets maybe destroyed ?
What can i do to check if the ticking goes away ?
thx

Tested once more without the blue connected to HV, board and neck.
I powered up the projector with main HV connected only and no tubes at all.
Ticking goes on a few times and projector shuts down automatically. Restarts and ticking goes on.....
any guess

Florian | When you tried to start projector without red/green tube did you have red/green yokes still connected?
If one yoke is missing, projector go to scan hold down mode. That can cause ticking when pj try to turn scan on and immediately turn it off...
