From my viewing of the A site, it seems that Art Sonnenborn has disowned the faith!
He has replaced his G90 Stack w/ a Dig..... i cant say it!
This means he's no longer king of the hill.
Whos the new king?
I nominate Gino. With a Smoking 9500 blend on a HUGE screen Custom sound. Dyn-o-mite sources.....
Hard to argue.
Anyone else???

Tim @ eTechvideo. Does he count though?
or Big Dog with the G90's. Supposedly his picture was on par or better than Art's.
Soon though I think it will be someone in Texas (not me, duh).
All set up by pro's at the top of their profession.

The one in TX should be pretty nice. I have one PJ up and running here as of yesterday and awaiting some parts for the second one as well as MP mods.
We are still considering screen material and sources.

We all know the standards.
We need documented proof of a SUPERIOR Setup.
King of the CRT hill is on the line..... Who wants it?

How about this list for categorized items. Maybe each candidate should post their entry:
- Projector(s) & configuration (blend, stack...)
- Mods done to the PJs if any
- Sources (resolution & frequency)
- Screen size, material, gain, other (torus, etc.)
- Dedicated HT room (number of seats, etc.)
- Total light control (yes or no)
- Sound system
- Other (separate room for equipment, popcorn...)
BR - Andres!

That reminds me...I need to hit him up to see how the mount design is coming along. Terry, we've got to try an set up a group dinner or something with the Dallas CRT group when you come out (and maybe even Eddie if he promises to behave ).

Well,
It can not be considered the BEST unless it utilizes BARCO Projectors.............

Barco makes a fine projector, but if you wanna be the best you have to put it all together!
Do you want to claim the title?
Well Do YA?????

I can only wonder why Art Sonnenborn went into the light. I mean, did something miraculous happen in digital, or did Art have something else causing his love for CRTs to wane?

Yup, that was why he stacked in the first place. Now the $50k digital he's getting is apparently "good enough" for PQ, and it has massive light output. He'll be able to light up his 14' or whatever screen at blinding levels.

It wasn't so much that Art had a love for CRT that he lost and it wasn't just that he wanted a huge screen with lots of light, though I think he always did want a larger screen than he could get with CRT.
He made a remark in one thread to the effect (yes, I'm paraphrasing) that this digital he was buying had finally surpassed the stack in every single category EXCEPT for absolute black level. By every other measure of image quality - including sharpness, ANSI contrast, uniformity, stability, and yes - brightness - the digital was superior to the stack. Art is a pretty straightforward scientific, objective guy. If he was willing to give up the twins, I'm sure the new setup will be stellar, and will still be reference quality in every way... except for maybe one.
Not everybody here realizes it (or is willing to admit it), but CRT's image quality has been eclipsed in many ways by digital. A lot of us here have CRT not necessarily because it offers the very best image quality, but because it offers the very best image quality at a price we can afford. I'd probably be one of those. No digital at any price I can afford or justify is anything I want to look at - especially when I can get a CRT that looks so much better in almost every way for much less money than I'd spend trying to achieve the same with a digital.
At the higher end of the market though, it's a whole different story. At that level, it becomes a game of tradeoffs... give up something here, get something back there. The biggie is trading superior absolute black level for superior ANSI contrast... which is NOT trivial any more than absolute black level is trivial.
I'm going to try to make it to Art's meet next month if I can. I think Curt might be going, too. I'm sure we'll all have stories to tell...

I dunno about that. I havent seen the new "Macdaddy" dlp that everyone is raving about. But ive spent considerable time w/ the Sony Qualia, and the ruby. Other than brightness, i wouldnt trade either for a crt blendzilla setup.
Thats just my 2c.

I was there the night Art decided he was going to the HT5000. Other than absolute black, it is one seriously incredible projector. It smoked the stack in everything but low APL.
I think he is going to be VERY happy with his decision. As far as the projector though, it better be kick ass for 50K retail.

Definitely better.
Art was extremely impressed with my setup and to my suprise actually made it known over at the other site more than once.
I feel like a proud son.
