When I fire my 10PG up the green and red tubes are too bright. The image on the tube looks like it is the correct brightness, it's the areas that should be black that are lit up. It used to be the green that only did this, now the red does it too. The brightness problem goes away after a minute or two.

I'm thinking it's probably some caps that are going bad, anyone know where I should start looking?

Thanks, Deron.

Does it come good after the memory kicks in? Or after a warmup.

If it's the first it sounds like the white balance is out and when the AKB kicks in if sorts it.

Or if after a warmup, then you have some tired caps, or it could be the tube.

My XG takes 5mins for the colours to sort themselves out. I've changed everyboard, I think it's the tube.

The AKB is what I tried first. I tried using the white balance to fix it, but that did nothing.

If I run the PJ often enough the problem is not there. Pretty sure it's some caps, just need to know where to start looking.

I guessing that I should start looking in either the video chain or the G2 section.

Try the 10uF 160volt or better caps on the video output board.

OK guys where else should I look, the video out board's caps should be good enough. The one open one I replaced fixed the minor streaking.

It acts almost like the G2 is boosted for about a minute and then it slowly goes back to normal. Another way to describe it is it's almost like the brightness is cranked all the way up and then it slowly comes down after about a minute.

Deron, check the caps on the wave board for esr, and the small ones around the oscillator IC on the deflection board. Sometimes you can even SEE them leaking.

I did find a bad one on the wave board, also the system board. I replaced them, have to do some testing to see if that did the trick.

Looks like the problem is fixed, I have started the PJ up several times and did not see the added brightness.

Marc, what made you think it was the wave board.

Deron, the caps on the wave board can cause weird problems. I had trouble with my own PG9 until I re-capped the wave board. Rock steady afterwards. The wave board controls most of the projectors functions, and others pass through it.

Just a hunch.
