Gang, I just acquired an Electrohome 9500LC. The guy I got it from had it in his basement unused in a flight case for 15 years. It powered up, was able to display an image, but there was some slight glitching throwing up a test pattern. We attributed this at the time to the basement power circuit possibly being less than clean since the glitches coincided with the HVAC turning on.
Low and behold, the LVPS literally shat the bed just after getting home. When powered up, the 9500 turns on, there's a power wine, diagnostic lights for the LVPS illuminate, and then the projector shuts off after several seconds of not doing anything. Using my old 8500, I swapped over the suspected problematic LVPS and the same thing happened. Aha! Meanwhile, the 9500 booted no issues with a donor LVPS from the ol' 8500. It was instantly to display an image over RGBHV.
Needless to say, this is a real bitch. The faulty LVPS was modified for lower fan noise (Tim Martin mod). Do those make it run hotter? The 9500LC is a 1997 model with a couple hardware upgrades. Any constructive tips, gang? Are there any failure points on the Marquee where one should be looking?
Opening up the faulty LVPS, the unit was remarkably clean inside. What I did notice was a considerable amount of what looks like hot glue on some of the capacitors and on the motherboard. Is this an indication of overheating? Or is this leakage from another component on the board? See picture below

Can't help you with the LVPS issues but the hot glue is normal. Meaning it was all put there when it was assembled/built.

It all depends on your skills. Schematics also available for the LVPS, so it is not impossible to fix, but be aware the LVPS utilizes lethal voltage levels... The stand-by / heater circuit is sloppy, generates a lot of HF noise, it is possible to lower this noise with some relatively easy modifications (for a skilled technician).
