Hi membres,

My Barco sometimes suddenly loose the picture.

Yesterday the picture started to shake horizontally before disappear.

After:
- The adjust menu does not appear
- The unit does not power off with the remote, I must power off with the main switch.
- The HT is still on, no red led on EHT and tube filament lightened.
- Red led on scan fail and horizontal deflection board and vertical deflection board. I reseated the H board.
- If I start with a lower resolution image the picture come on and than I can resume my standar resolution image (1600x1200).

I suspect the horizontal deflection board and I ask if there is something to check/fix on this board.

When the picture came on I have this voltage. A lot of them appear wrong, mainly -17v and +9v.
Is it possible to adjust something starting from here ?

Thanks,
Alberto

Those voltages are pretty well fine.

What you need to do is pull out the SMPS and replace all the capacitors with Panasonic FC and FR, then do the other boards too if you feel enthusiastic enough.

Adjust the voltage on the SMPS as per the instructions, aim for 17.3 volts with a full white screen and at the resolution you intend to use, and with the source you normally use. After replacing the caps with decent ones the power supply with be a LOT more stable and consistent, which in turn will make the set operate better. This is pretty important because Barco convergence and geometry is not a patch on the NEC XG projectors, infact it isn't really even better than the PG projectors in you have the point board installed. The Cine 9 might be significantly better than the previous Barco models, but that aint sayin much. At least it does provide a mind blowing image that not even the best tuned up XG can really match.

This sounds more like your main controller board is having issues, but from what you describe it is hard to say.

Since i replaced every capacitor in my Cine 9 with Panasonic FC and FR, my set has been absolutely bulletproof for well over ten years and has more than 23,000 hours on it.

Hi,

I replaced the horizontal board and the set was working well.

Now no more image and the red scan fail light on the SMP2 board.

Could be due to bad caps on the main SMPS + SMP2 boards or something else in the set ?

Thanks.

Hi,

I removed all the caps from SMP2 + subunit.

Now where can I source the Panasonics in Europe ?

I find them at some electronic online shops but they sell 100 pieces per type!

Thanks.

Farnell Italy. Panasonic FR and FC series are the best.

Hi.

Removing the caps from the SMPS sub unit I see something strange, like a modification.
Is it a known mod or I must look for another board ?

Second thing.. there are 2 caps that don't have the standard shape of electrolytics. Are these to be renewed anyway ?

Thanks

Hi Alberto,

The mod on the SMPS sub-board is normal, almost all boards are like this (or should be).
Barco themself did that upgrade, i guess it was cheaper than developing a brand new pcb version.

About those caps : it is ok to use standard 2 pin version, Barco did it on the latest version of the SMPS.
Despite the fact that the lay-out on the pcb is still a star shape, they used regular caps with 7,5mm distance between the leads.
Positive goes in the middle and negative on the side.
I can't load pictures here, but i'll try to do it trough a PM. You can clearly see on which side the negative pole goes.

Ciao
