Are all the lenses between the 8500 and 9500 cross compatible? In the manual it says the HD145 is an option for the 8500 but not the 9500. Has anyone put 145's on a 9500 and lived to tell the tale?

Not sure why anyone would put lens for an 8" projector on a 9" projector. I think the reverse has been done though.

No as HD145's are air gapped and all 9500's are LC. Simulation 9" CRT's sometimes are non LC but the HD145's would not be appropriate as the CRT face at that distance would distort near the edge.

8500LC due to the LC chamber uses HD-9 LC lenses that is why it is confusing. I think no other manufacturer did this. A stock non LC 8500 I think came with HD-8 air gapped lenses.

Yeah that's definitely where my confusion came from, my only experience has been with the 8500lc and 9500lc, I didn't realize the face was different on the vanilla 8500. Thanks for setting my head straight!
